NHS GP recommendations Post Reply

Ladies,

I've popped in my new post code to the nhs GP finder and it's come up with the following as less than half a mile away. I've read some good things on the forum about the Lavender Hill Group but not keen as it's nearly a mile.

What are people's thoughts on the below list, experiences etc.?

My family is at the Thurleigh Road Practice, and I have been very impressed! Nice, thoughtful GPs, a handy online appointment booking system, and same day appointments if you call first thing.

Well I have heard that if you are a member of thurleigh rd they will see you same day whether it's a life and death crisis or a toe nail fungus whereas as battersea rise i find it a bit trickier to get an appt same day and you have to call at 9 or 3 to be triaged. Always takes me a couple of weeks to get an appt. That could be hearsay about thurleigh rd so best wait for someone so knows what they are talking about to get back to you. The doctors at battersea rise are great, I think as in many doctors surgeries it's sometimes a couple of the receptionists that make things a bit tricky due to protocol and procedure but in fairness there are also a few nice ones now in BR.

I've been with Thurleigh Road for several years now - they are so flexible, appointments can be very early to very late, if you need a same day you just get there before 8 or call them at 8 to get one, they have loads of other practitioners, do great phone help and everyone is really lovely. I'd recommend them! But then I haven't tried the others...

We are happy with Battersea Rise. My kids always get in the same day and for myself, its either been same day or in 2 days for something non urgent. I called this morning (a bit late at 8.20 vs 8am on the dot) and had the choice of being triaged by a nurse in hopes of getting an "emergency" appt today or taking a definite appt with lots of different times including evening. I took the Wed appt as its urgent but not an emergency.

We've rarely seen the same doctor twice but I guess that's typical in the NHS. Most have been very helpful.

The chemist is just next door which is very convenient, especially when you or your little ones are sick and you just want to get back home asap.

We couldn't get in Thurleigh Road (proximity), which was our first choice. Ended up in Heritage - sorry... NIGHTMARE - although this was nearly 4 years ago, hopefully has improved. We are with Battersea Rise & whilst I agree the appointment system is a pain - I have always got a same day emergency appt for my little ones if needed. The doctors are brilliant, very thorough & never dismissive or make me feel like an OTT over concerned parent.

I have been trying to get my family in Thurleigh Road Practice for 4 years ! If you have the option I would not turn it down - think they do it on "catchment" area.

We are at Battersea Rise. One of the receptionist (I think most of you that go there will know who I am talking about) is SO unfriendly. I dread having to make an appointment in case I have to speak to her !

I don't find them particularly user friendly to be honest but I guess they are ok.

Yes I know who you mean. She told my husband he couldn't have an emergency appt to get a referral for a specialist to cut off his melanoma. She told him it had to be for emergencies like sinusitis. Doctor was v cross when she found out!

I'm with Battersea Rise, as it's only just up the road...you have to leave buggys outside (so we just take our baby up in the baby bjorn). We joined them in August, and they're ok so far. I used to be with Falcon Road medical centre and you were able to check in on a screen as you entered, so that if the receptionist was busy then you didn't have to wait to tell them you'd arrived. Wish Battersea Rise had that.

Most of my NCT friends are with Thurleigh Rd, and they rave about it.

I'm happy with Battersea Rise, so far so good. I don't think I've come across this unfriendly receptionist as yet, now I'm worried...!!

We are with Battersea Rise, we live right around the corner so it's super convenient but the service is very mixed. They are great with new borns and you can pretty much get an appointment for them the same day or the next day but as my kids get older and for adults I find it hard to get an appointment to see an actual GP. Last year I took my eldest to see a GP there because he had a few spots - we thought it was chicken pox but he old had a few spots and was pretty ill - throwing up. We were told it wasn't chicken pox, the GP didn't know what it was and said it was a rash and gave us some steroid cream for the spots. A few days later my second son broke out in the worst case of chicken pox that I have ever seen! They both had chicken pox one was just very 'mild' and was not picked up by the GP.
