Is anyone interested in joining a babysitting group in SW11?

Postby ckwmum » Sun Jan 19, 2014 8:42 pm

Hi

I would love to go out more but babysitting costs really add up and can make a quick night out at the cinema a pricy affair.

My friend told me she has a network of local mums who all babysit for each other on a token system - everyone starts off with 10 tokens, each of which represents 1 hr of babysitting. If you go out for 3 hrs, you hand over 3 tokens to whoever sits for you. That person then has 13 tokens. The great bit is you don't have to reciprocate for the same person, just anyone else in the circle. You then earn back tokens by sitting for others.

Ideally it should be an easy sitting job, so kids in bed already or allowed to stay up with minimal supervision - not dinner, bath, toothbrush, bed etc.

Is anyone interested? If so I will set it up.

I love the idea. My parents did exactly the same thing when we were small and it worked really well.

I'm in SW17, but really only 10 mins away from SW11.

Great! Sorry, didn't mean to imply it was SW11 only by any means - as long as you're happy to drive, I'm sure 10 mins isn't too much of a stretch for anyone.

Yes!!! How bizarre!! I've been totally thinking of suggesting exactly this recently, but have been a bit shy to post because I wasn't sure what people would think. We were living in Toronto for a few years and this is quite a common thing there. I'd love to join you. We are Balham, but again just 10 mins up the road from SW11 and SW17, I have no problem driving that. Should we all meet up for coffee and chat it through? Brilliant! Thx for suggesting!

Wonderful, so pleased it's not just me who's up for this.

Yes, good idea to meet up. I will also set up some sort of group page eventually, perhaps Facebook or a Yahoo groups or something so we can all get in touch easily.

The more the merrier so if anyone else is up for it, or knows other mums who might want in, please let me know.

I found this: http://www.thebabybank.com and have signed up to start a babysitting circle. If anyone is interested in joining, please email/PM me your name and email address and I will add you to the group.

It is totally free to use the email version of this service and it also manages all the babysitting tokens and everything online. If you want to use the automated text service, it costs £1.50 per text, which isn't the end of the world but I haven't so far signed up to it as I reckon email could work OK.

Please get in touch if you're interested and I'll add you.

Hello, I just searched for a baby sitting circle and it came up with this, I would love to join my email is: info@fitnessfusions.co.uk.

I just have a quick question how we get to know each other and feel comfortable we are leaving our children in safe hands? It would be great if we got to know each other and also some level of friendship, even if it's just the odd coffee date?

Is there a number I can find somewhere to call about the group?
