I am thinking of moving to Streatham (currently in Wandsworth). Would be interested in comments from residents as to what they like and dislike about the area. I have 2 primary school age kids.

Streatham's a big area with a lot of different sub-areas, e.g. Streatham Hill, Streatham Common, Streatham Vale, Streatham Park and Leigham Court/Vale.

Are you thinking of any area in particular? What are your reasons for moving? What sort of school would you like for your children?

We like everything about Streatham except the transport which is a nightmare. It's not only the fact that there is no tube, but also that depending on the road on which you live, you can be 10 minutes walk from the nearest bus stop.

I loved living in Streatham and we would definitely relocate there when moving back to London. We lived there without kids but I am searching the area as we are thinking to move back. I work as a nanny (now on maternity leave) and I looked at all options for all ages. There is everything you need!
We used to live in Wellfield road (Sunnyhill primary school is around the corner). Wellfield road is 5 minutes from the High road, equally distant from Streatham and Streatham Hill Rail stations (max 10mins). There are plenty of buses to Brixton Underground and one direct bus to Balham Underground. There are two amazing green areas, Streatham and Tooting Commons. There are so many little cafes too. The best doctor surgery is in Gracefield gardens.
I would say it is not Southfields or Wimbledon but it is a great place to move to.

I live between Balham and Streatham Hill, just off Telford Road, and have been loving it for the past 3 years. The neighborhood is quiet, the neighbours friendly, and you get the best of two high streets - Balham and Streatham Hill.

Bath seems to keep evolving with really good restaurants and cafes, and now the street market on Hildreth Street is going through a makeover. Hopefully will be like Clapham's Venn Street soon. There's even a craft beer shop opening within the next two weeks.

Streatham Hill is shabbier than Balham. But again, some nice places opening up, like Addomo's, a family run Italian restaurant. The metabolism site which dominates Streatham Hill is going to be fully redeveloped over the next year or two, bringing lots of new shops, restaurants, apartments, and maybe even a local theatre.

Down the road in Streatham, a new modern leisure centre has just opened, complete with ice skating rink, gym, and swimming pool.

It doesn't have to the name recognition like Clapham, but Streatham is definitely on the rise.

Being a frequent visitor to California I love this type of beer, I just hope they will keep the prices keen, craft beer shouldn't be eyewateringly expensive!
I would buy a lot more at the sub £2 a bottle mark.

I live in streatham Hill with my baby closer to the Tulse Hill side & I am moving as I don't want to bring her up here. As the previous poster said Streatham Hill is becoming really quite nice, one of the side streets off the high street would be perfect for a family I think, a few lovely deli's (Polish one opposite the station is great & pizza express) but where we are further up Leigham Court road still has a slightly dodgy undercurrent. Make sure you visit your potential street in both day & nightime & check the street for rubbish put out on the wrong day & dog poo, those can be good indicators of anti social behaviour. That said streatham hill to victoria in 15 mins is brilliant & the Tate library is amazing. Also depends how old your kids are; I wouldn't bring teenagers here.
