Needing some help/suggestions on where to buy a decent kitchen where I'm not going to have to pay through the roof? Or a recommendation of a carpenter who could copy a design for me?

I know what you mean about cost. I know a company who sell kitchens that start at £25,000. I choked on my croissant when I read that. But then, the average lifespan of a Swedish kitchen is 18-20 years, compared to 5-7 years in the UK. I guess in terms of long term mileage and value to the property, it works out. It did make me think about the modest budget I have for my kitchen when I do come to do it.

We had our kitchen designed, supplied, and installed by West London Kitchens. Cannot recommend them enough. The kitchen made by Schuller, and very good quality - looks much more expensive than it was. Ours is L-shaped (approx 3x3m), and cost £8K, not including appliances or worktop. We bought solid worktops from local supplier for £900, which look beautiful after a few oilings which we did ourself.

Try Kitchen Koncepts on Balham High Road, we got our Schuller kitchen from there, but they also stock other UK and German brands to suit all budgets. I found them very helpful and willing to go the extra mile to make the client happy.

Depending on your budget, you can also try Eclectic Interiors on Abbeville Road, I stopped by their stall today at the Home Building Show in Kensington Olympia and they were exhibiting a very modern and contemporary design from an Italian brand called Composit Kitchens.
