Biscuiteers Icing Cafe coming to the Northcote Road

Postby TheBiscuiteers » Mon Nov 03, 2014 11:59 am

Hi Everyone,

We are delighted to announce the opening of our second Biscuit Boutique and Icing Café, at 13 Northcote Road (previously a Paul) at the end of this month.

In case you don't know us, we first launched at http://www.biscuiteers.com in 2007, and have been making beautiful, hand iced biscuits, cakes and chocolates for 7 happy years. Following our book 'The Biscuiteers Book of Iced Biscuits' published in 2009, we had so many requests from people wanting to learn to ice biscuits in the same way, that we opened our very first Biscuit Boutique and Icing Café in Notting Hill in 2010.

We are thrilled to be opening our 2nd boutique on the Northcote Road. It will be part icing school, part boutique and part café, so you can drop in, grab a coffee and ice some biscuits if you fancy - a bit like a pottery café!

We are particularly excited about bringing our children's icing school to Clapham. We will be running regular classes and a drop in icing café. In our Notting Hill boutique this weekend we ran a Halloween icing class, complete with face-painting and spooky story telling! You can even hire us for your little ones birthday party.

We love the Northcote Road (being residents of the area ourselves!) and cannot wait to join the community of shops, cafes and restaurants. We open at the end of November so do pop in and say hi. We cant wait to meet you.

The Biscuiteers x

As per our mutual tweets, we're very pleased to welcome you, but your post here on Nappy Valley has a mistake that we would like to correct.

Northcote Road is not in Clapham, but proudly and delightfully in Battersea.

If you are able to correct your post above, we and all other lovers of beautiful Battersea and its wonderful treasure of Northcote Road would be very happy and grateful to you.

Here's a map just in case its helpful. :D

Thanks so much guys!

I always say Clapham and prefer Clapham to Battersea.

Sounds posher!

:P oooh that's a bit naughty, thinking Battersea isn't posh enough to be called 'Battersea' ;)

Just in case this helps - we've marked Northcote Road, Lavender Hill and other famous Battersea roads that help orientate people.

Errr I don't think it really matters does it?

I mean if I say Clapham everyone thinks Northcote Road, between the Commons etc.

I think the Battersea stuff confuses people even more.

Northcote Road is very definitely in Battersea, not Clapham. Clapham is quite a distance away on the far side of Clapham Common. I don't understand why SOME people cannot just accept that.

I note that Northcote Road and "Between the Commons" is squarely within Battersea the parliamentary constituency, unlike Clapham.

Wandsworth Common is the other side of Northcote Road, but nobody suggests that makes "Between the Commons" part of Wandsworth.

All the confusion stems from Clapham Junction. I read that when they were building the station they were going to call it Battersea Junction (which it is), but at the time Clapham was felt to be the more desirable area so it was called Clapham Junction instead.

Clapham is in Lambeth
Battersea is in Wandsworth

Isn't this one of those weird situations where the very fact you need to have a campaign illustrates that many people have different understandings of what Clapham means?

I use Clapham Junction train station and so I tend to think I live in Clapham.

Until you get that changed I think it's going to be an uphill struggle.

The other thing I don't understand about your campaign is does it really matter?

I mean really?

Sorry to be so down on it but these lovely Biscuitears people have opened a shop and I think everyone knows what they mean when they say Clapham!

WOW!

I've just looked at your site

http://www.lovebattersea.org.uk/

Bloody hell!

You take this seriously don't you.

Why are you so worked up about it?

I don't mean this comment unpleasantly but isn't this becoming a bit of an unhealthy obsession?

Good afternoon all!

We are very excited to welcome members of both the Clapham and Battersea communities into our brand new Northcote Road store. We open our doors on 22nd November so please do swing by to ice a biscuit and enjoy a coffee.

We are delighted to be part of the Northcote Road Christmas light switch on event too, which is happening on Friday 28th November. There will be mulled wine, biscuit icing tutorial and 15% off! We hope to see folks from Clapham and Battersea there :)

Love, The Biscuiteers x

Very proud to be Battersea, and love the fact that Bellevue Road is Battersea according to this map. Sure beats Tooting! *ducks for cover*

Northcoteluvie, it is especially important to those of us who were born/grew up in the area and/or have strong ties here. Clapham is a very different area. I'm sorry you don't get it, but people like you are the reason we have this problem of recent times, 'because it sounds posher!' Really? Do you realise how sad that sounds? More so than starting a campaign.

Anyway, I'm very excited to have Biscuiteers on Northcote and I will definitely be visiting and purchasing from.

Ok, I think we're going to have to agree to disagree!

I don't think it's sad to want I want to be posher, I think that's just aspirational :)
I'm really proud of the fact I have a much much higher standard of living than my parents and I prefer living in Clapham than Battersea!

Anyway each to their own :-)

@Northcoteluvvie - if you prefer living in Clapham to Battersea then why don't you move to Clapham?!
