New to SW11 - Recommendations Please

Postby Monkey_mami » Thu Jan 20, 2011 3:03 pm

My family and I moved to Clapham from abroad a few months ago and are really enjoying the area. Have located all the basics but would like to ask veteran SW11 ladies for recommendations in the neighbourhood for the following:

- Catholic Churches, need to baptize our youngest
- Trimmings shop (may have a different name here, lookinh for buttons, threads, ribbons, etc)
- Nail salon
- Hair Salon, specifically somewhere to get a Brazilian Keratin treatment
- Eyebrow threading
- Yoga/Pilates classes

Thank you in advance and Happy New Year!

I'm not sure if there is a trimmings or Haberdashery shop in SW11 although the people at Fabrics Galore on Lavender Hill would know. However, VV Rouleaux has all sorts of lovely trimmings and the Haberdashery department in PeterJones, Sloane Square (VV Rouleaux is just behind Peter Jones) is also very good. http://www.vvrouleaux.com/

I believe that the Holy Ghost, 36 Nightingale Square, SW12 is very popular.

I like the Cox McMillan hair salon on Battersea Rise and Lemon Tree on Webbs Road as well as Anthony Laban on Lavender Hill.

Good luck with your search...

Wimbledon Sewing on Balham High Road - a HUGE sewing shop with everything in terms of ribbons and trims.

I can also highly recommend Lemon Tree on Webbs Rd!

There's a Catholic church on Lavender Hill - sorry I don't know the name but it's a huge, red brick building with amazing views across London. Eyebrow threading you can have done in Debenhams on the ground floor in the beauty section, you can often show up without needing to book. I go to Anthony Laban for my hair too and they often give you money off deals which is really useful.

Sorry, I forgot all about yoga and pilates. Battersea yoga are great and do classes in lots of locations around - check them out on google. There's the Pilates Practice on st john's hill and also Lavender Heal on Lavender Hill for pilates.

That isn't a Catholic church on Lavender Hill. The Catholic church is in Altenburg Gardens, which is off Lavender Hill. Sorry I can't help with any other of your queries, apart from to echo the recommendation for Wimbledon Sewing Machine Centre.

Me Time on Nightingale Lane is who I go to for pedicures, they do a great job at a reasonable price.

Jo Redfearn does fantastic Pilates classes locally - her website is www.studiojo.com.

Welcome to the area!

We'd like to introduce you to Independent mindbodysoul, an Aveda hair salon & spa at 87 Balham High Road (SW12) and mummy & baby spa at 20 Ritherdon Road (SW17)

At both sites we offer manicures and pedicures including express services for maintenance and spa nail services for something a bit more luxurious. You can also book eyebrow threading with Diana, our threading expert.

Our hair salon on Balham High Road uses only Aveda hair colour and we also offer the Global Keratin Brazilian Blow dry treatment which is formaldehyde free.

Take a look at our website www.independentmbs.co.uk, or contact us on 0208 772 0208 or reception@independentmbs.co.uk.
Do take a look at the Offers page of our website where you will find discounts on treatments and services valid at each site every month.
Also, little ones are welcome to join you at our Ritherdon Road spa.

We hope to see you soon
