Back carriers

Postby jojelly » Mon Mar 28, 2011 2:35 pm

Can anyone recommend a good make of back carrier - our little one is growing out of the baby bjorn carried on the front and I'd like to find out the safest back carrier to buy for the next step to use when going for walks, to the shops etc when don't want to use the pram.
Thanks

We just bought the Little Life voyager. It's brilliant, extremely comfortable for both parent and child. Highly recommend.

We've just bought a Little Life carrier and its great as we have just moved out of London and are doing nice long walks on the weekends. However my husband uses the Little Life but as it adds a few kg to the load, I'm still using the Beco Butterfly I bought when my daughter was tiny. I had to give up on a Baby Bjorn as it gave me back ache. Until she was just under two I could still carry her comfortably on my front for short trips like shopping and now that she is just over two I carry her on my back in it if I go walking without my husband and will probably do so for a good while yet. The beauty of it is that it weighs nothing, is the most comfortable thing you could imagine (the weight sits on your hips) and is a really attractive thing. I've used it almost daily for nearly two years and it still looks perfect it is so well made. I bought mine from naturalconnection.co.uk who got it to me in a day as I was going on holiday. At the time they were the only ones selling them but I think you can get them from a lot of places now. That said, my husband who is a big tall fella prefers the Little Life as the weight means not much to him so it depends on who does most of the carrying!

The Deuter Kid Comfort is not a cheap option but it is absolutely amazing - incredibly practical AND comfortable, a fantastic piece of kit for going out on walks or for taking on holiday. It has a great sun canopy and rain cover too. There are much cheaper options but I'd say you'd get better value for money spending a bit more on something that's really going to last you a long time. Or you can do what I did and nab one off eBay!

I love the Ergo carrier. Not sure if sold in UK. It can be work front or back.
