Is there really a Sainsburys opening on Bellevue? The stretch where Chez Bruce etc is? That is seriously tragic. What we really need is a gourmet deli/bakery.

Lol I imagine that would be lovely but for everyone else I think a supermarket is needed in that area!

-a market, perhaps - not "super" market. I would prefer a nice health food store like As Nature Intended up on Balham High Rd.

Lots of the other businesses on Bellevue Road have put up notices in support of Sainsbury's opening - but I don't know exactly when it's planned to open....
But tad0308 I do know that a deli is about to open in the old Natasha's site, & fresh bread & cakes are already being sold outside the shop on a Saturday.

That'll keep everyone sweet then. I imagine the rents in Bellvue Rd. may be a deterrent to smaller businesses opening there (just like Northcote Rd.) and as the area isn't within close proximity to a store selling a wide variety of goods then it's better than nothing. At least it'll be much more use to the area than a poncey pastry, pate & pie shop.:D

The deli is opening in May, not sure when the Sainsbury's is due to open, but it's all good news to me!

Thanks guys for the info on the deli. Super excited about that. Very sorry for local business owners that a large corporate like Sainsburys is coming to town and will prob undercut the independents.

Talkman, why the chip on your shoulder? I just happened to read the thread re Thomas' as well. No need to be so provocative. No idea what FFS means but I have no doubt it is not polite.

No wish I did, but the good news is we are getting a deli too, where Natasha's the cafe used to be opening sometime in May :D

Ha!

That is tough.

I have to say that I don't think private matters in the early days but it bloody matters later.

My neighbour reckons HALF of the kids in her kids year 5 class are being tutored! Half! And thats state because they're paranoid they won't pass the private school exams for "big" school.

Now if state is so good, why are they being tutored?

Just asking!

apparently there is a rock and rose (bar) opening in the old cafe du village site and possibly a dog grooming parlour in the old blooming marvellous site. At least all the shops are filling up and opening again.

tad0308, "seriously tragic" to most people on planet Earth would be something akin to the recent Japanese earthquake and tsunami, not a Sainsbury's Local opening close to Chez Bruce. FFS? I'm sure you know by now. ;)
