Health club for all the family

Postby millymoo » Thu Oct 05, 2017 3:07 pm

Am looking for a health club with swimming pool and ideally access to tennis courts that we can join as a family. The Harbour club would be ideal but put off by the fees. Have investigated Purple Dragon but was even more alarmed by their membership charges!

I've been a member of Chiswick riverside club for 10 years and the facilities are amazing. It might seem far but if you hit the traffic at the right times it a doddle. Also at weekends you can have a lovely roast in addition to their regular very good menu options.
We make a day of it. There is an outdoor pool which is very limited very little very to have in the summer. At age 8, children don't need supervision in the pool if they can pass a swim test. Great spa, indoor and outdoor courts - crèche for little ones, huge secure car park, on the river if you fancy a walk, easy on the train to Barnes from CJ if you don't want to drive etc etc etc. Huge fan. AND - you can use any virgin active club in the UK as it's their flagship club. I go to classes at The Pavement in the week. You can also do kids swimming there everyday too.

Investigate Nuffield Health. They have several categories of membership, one of which entitles you to use all their clubs dotted around London, which is very handy. W'wth branch has a great pool and whilst there is no tennis (might be at other branches; definitely squash on offer at their Battersea branch), it is close to local courts. Also has a creche, good gym, loads of classes, cafe, parking, it's well run etc.

Also there is of course the Hurlingham - but your children might be well out of uni and into their careers by the time you get membership. Has all the ingredients you require.

I've always thought there is room for a proper club, which ticks all the boxes, within spitting distance of SW11 - but it would be very £££.

Hi all - just refreshing this thread as I was asking myself exactly the same thing! Purple dragon is near-ish but v expensive, and the closest thing to what might otherwise be suitable is Nuffield in Wandsworth. I was wondering if there’s anything new that’s popped up since the last post ideally with a crèche / soft play and gym / work space?

Thank you very much in advance

Hi,

I use Virgin Active in Wandsworth by the river. Good club overall, nice creche facilities and some workspace. No tennis courts though.
