taxis with children's carseats?

Postby confusedofbattersea » Thu May 12, 2011 8:16 pm

Hi, we're off on holiday and need to book a taxi to Gatwick airport. Can anyone recommend a firm which will provide children's carseats as part of their service?
Thanks.

Yes, a company I used recently to collect a friend and her daughter were excellent. He had a people carrier with an infant seat, but she was too big for it, so he magicked up a built in toddler seat. Let me see if I can find their card ....

Addison Lee. Book a VW Sharan as they have built in child seats.

But if you have an infant, Addlee stopped doing baby seats a couple of months ago.

I tried Addison Lee recently for my 18 mth old and they said they didn't have a suitable seat but could take him anyway. I took the tube...

I have also used C C H in Clapham and they have either sent a car with a built in car seat or sent one in the car which we've helped the driver fit. Not exactly as pristine as Addison Lee or your own I guess given just a pretty bog standard minicab firm but... I am sure other minicab firms would help if you asked.

Last time we went to Gatwick though we drove - the short stay car park for a week actually worked out pretty much the same cost (and a bit cheaper) as a taxi there and back.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the feedback. I'll give CCH a call or try Addison Lee. Oh, it was so easy when it was just me and a suitcase on wheels!

My toddler and I regularly get taken to and from London city. Addison Lee stopped providing car seats for children so we use Tristar instead. They are very good and the drivers always help with luggage and buggies etc...

Typically, I can't find the card number.

But, the guy who drove my friend and her daughter is called Hanif and his no is 07883024536 - I don't know the exact configuration of his child seats - I know that there are at least two inbuilt - one of which is a 1+ seat. He has a couple of kids himself, so I imagine he'd be able to accommodate you guys no problem.

We use a meet n' greet service and it costs about £70. I search for the cheapest through holidayextras.com a few weeks before travelling, so have used a number of different firms. Works really well as we get to drive our own car, with car seats, right to the airport door and it's there again on our return. Much cheaper than a cab both ways too.

Addison Lee drove me home from work last night. They do still have a few VW Sharans with the built in child seat but all new vehicles in their fleet will not have the option. "It's a bit **** really" were the words of my driver. :o

All back cabs have a special Childs seat which folds out of the middle seat. I have used it for children and it's fine for a bay older than 12 months. I think it's a shame the taxi drivers don't bother to tell their customers about it.
Alternatively i have used the valet parking at gatwick and it works out the same price as taxis from home there and back so I chose that option now.

Well, I never knew that about black cabs.

I suppose the bulk of AddLee's business is corporate, so the need for child seats is small. If the built-in seats cost extra, which I bet they do, can see why they're no longer buying cars with them. Shame, though.

Having just got massively ripped off by ComCab with a similar problem - any more recommendations for taxis? We've got two kids, and we often need to take the eurostar at unsociable hours.
