Child friendly Pub for Sunday Lunch

Postby anootka » Mon May 16, 2011 4:16 pm

Ladies,
could anyone recommend a toddler friendly pub for Sunday lunch. Preferably with some enclosed outside space for him to safely run around as we have a bite to eat for longer then 10 mins as that seems to be how long he wants to be at any restaraunt at the moment.
We are happy to drive anywhere in SW London (Chelsea/Fulham area is fine too).

The Selkirk Pub in Tooting is great and has a walled garden making it safe for toddlers. The lunch is really good. Best to book in advance as it does get busy.

Do you know of anything more Wandsworth/Northcote way?

Maybe try Avalon nr Clapham South.
It has a really big walled garden outside with lovely teak furniture and unbrellas - you know the sort of thing. Food has always been good and staff v hospitable. Havent been this summer yet but they have a b b que too outside as well as all the usual menu. OR
The County Arms on Trinity Rd opposite Wandsworth Common. That has a conservatory at the back that seems to attract families and a smaller outside space too. Lovely food from memory. There is also an upstairs room if theres a gang of you.
The Ship might be a good option too but Im not sure about how the outside space is organised as I last went in the winter but it is child friendly.

Do report back its hard to keep up with whats good from one month to the next. Or of course if you find anything else, I do think that we are wanting in this area for child friendly pubs!

I have been to the Ship - love their bbq, though I dont think it was great for our toddler (6 months ago) they did have a high chair but no space to run around.
County Arms - we tried one Sunday but we couldn't get a table as apparently you need to book in advance. But it gets good reviews so will definitely try again.
Avalon - that sounds like a good option, will definitely report back once we try it.
And thanks for your suggestions!

The Leather Bottle in Earlsfield (Burntwood Lane end) has a massive beer garden with grass, good tunes, a kitchen and outdoor BBQ and lots of other parents with small kids. It is mostly enclosed and has a lush green feeling to it. It's the closest to a country pub I've found in London. It also backs onto a park with a playground.

Hi
The Bollingbroke at the bottom of Northcote Road is fab with kids. Sunday lunch is usually packed with toddlers and a few sleeping babies in prams. They also have great kids menus, lovely food for adults and great setting. I definitely recommend it.

The Victoria in East Sheen has a mini playground in the back for children that's very safe and good children's food and high chairs. Booking suggested

I confirm the Leather Bottle is great with kids, either in the summer as the garden is indeed huge or in the winter because the inside is big as well, there is a dining room with service by waiters and also the pub side with differents rooms, where you order at the bar but it is easy going and cheap. However it is not the finest food. It is just basic pub food.
I also know the Stonehouse in Clapham (near Clapham common station), where the food is great. It is more like a gastro pub. You can definitely go with kids for Sunday lunch, even if you will fee a bit less comfortable if they run around. I would recommend to go early with kids, around 12pm when it is still quiet (usually it gets crowded at 1/1.30pm on Sundays). The service is good and they give a colouring menu with pencils for the kids.

Just thought i'd let you know that we were at the avalon a couple of weeks ago and the BBQ wasn't running. the waiter also said they weren't planning to restart it this summer as it hadn't been profitable. which is such a shame as their bbq was lovely. i'd recommend the devonshire arms as a good alternative.

I second the Bollingbroke at end of northcote road. my toddler loves it and they always have crayons etc, plus they can decorate their own cup cake for pudding. fab pub and AMAZING roasts
