We all know that learning is central to school life. However, academic learning is just one part of this. Learning about ourselves (our strengths, weaknesses, personality, interests and more) and how to understand, respect and thrive in our ever-changing world are forms of learning equally important for today’s young people.
Eaton Square Prep and Nursery Schools exemplify the very best of all-round learning. Read on to find out how…
Academic Learning
Eaton Square’s repeatedly impressive 11+ results, achieved with no pressurised ‘hot-house’ environment, speak for themselves. Scholarships and offers from the UK’s leading senior schools abound, with pupils gaining 11+ places at the likes of Westminster, Dulwich, JAGS, Alleyn’s, City of London, Latymer Upper, Eton, Harrow, Francis Holland, Putney High and Cheltenham Ladies College.
To further boost their academic prowess, this September Dr Maria Hafalla will join Eaton Square as the new Deputy Head (Academic). An inspirational educator, Dr Hafalla’s immense career in academic research and science education – spanning everything from the USA National Science Foundation and European Commission Marie Curie fellowship schemes to Science Educator at The Francis Crick Institute – will be of immense benefit to the School’s young learners. Indeed, STEAM is a highlight of Eaton Square School life.
Learning about yourself
Emotional wellbeing, a knowledge of one’s own unique strengths and weaknesses and an ability to communicate confidently are all vital lifelong skills. Eaton Square provides a firm foundation for all; encouraging children to learn these in several ways.
Pupils are empowered to explore and unlock their own individual interests through a vibrant extra-curricular programme, residential trips and extensive range of clubs (Judo, Cookery, Debating, Gardening, Ballet, Swimming, Orchestra, Choir, Mandarin and Elite Chess – to name but a few). Confidence and communication skills are nurtured from an early age. Impressively, the School is an accredited TEDx centre, enabling pupils to rehearse, audition and perform their very own TEDxTalks to a global platform. The pupils themselves choose the topics (past examples range from ‘Maths is all around us’ to ‘Girls should do karate’), granting them an invaluable opportunity to articulate their thoughts and ideas at a world-class level.
Throughout, pastoral support is exceptional. With its own in-house wellbeing programme (‘The Listening Space’), it is unsurprising that Eaton Square is rated ‘Excellent’ in all ISI inspections.
Learning about the world
Eaton Square pupils learn to understand and respect the environmental and digital realities of the modern world; allowing them to thrive in both.
An official ‘Eco School’ with top Green Flag status, pupils enthusiastically embrace activities such as recycling competitions, growing plants, building bug hotels and fundraising for environmental causes. Digital skills are instilled through thoughtful use of fun ‘Bee-Bots’ (floor robots), Surface Go devices and timetabled Computing lessons. Passionate and qualified teachers have mastered an expert blend of screen-free and tech-enriched learning.
A sense of global responsibility pervades School life, as demonstrated through campaigns ranging from ‘International Week’ (where pupils share books, food, clothing and traditions important to them) to ‘Language of the Term’ where every single member of the School learns the basics of a new language each Term. Eaton Square was even named in the Top 3 ISA Schools for its commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
