Falcons School for Girls has recently embarked on their first three-day choir tour to Belgium, in conjunction with brother school, Falcons School for Boys.
Excited pupils from the Putney-based school travelled across the channel for the musical and historical trip, being welcomed to the city of Bruges with a cruise along the canal to view this picturesque location.
The budding young singers performed at a home for the elderly and hosted a concert at the impressive Church of our Lady.
The girls spent time learning the history of the country with visits to key museums such as Memorial Museum Passchendaele and In Flanders Fields. The curious pupils also visited the well-known Tyne Cot Cemetery, Langemark Cemetery and had a guided tour of the Bayernwald Trenches.
A significant and much-valued aspect of the tour was attending the renowned Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate, a moving ceremony which has become part of the daily life in Ypres.
Head of Music Miss Madeleine Lang commented: “The tour was a huge success and a fantastic experience for our girls who were incredibly excited to be showcasing their talent in the historical location.”
“The visit to Belgium was an educational trip that provided the perfect opportunity for our children’s learning to be enhanced, with a particular focus on history.”
For those interested, the school is hosting two scholarship days, 1pm – 3:30pm on Tuesday 17 April and Saturday 28 April. To register your interest, please contact the Registrar, Harriet Stokes at harriet.stokes@falconsgirls.co.uk.
