ALLEYN’S APPOINTS MRS JANE LUNNON AS NEW HEAD

Last Updated on : 27th March 2020

Current Head of Wimbledon High School will become the first female Head of leading co-educational school Alleyn’s when she joins in January 2021.

Mrs Lunnon will replace Dr Gary Savage who has been Headmaster since 2010. She commented, “I am honoured to be appointed as the next Head of Alleyn’s. The ambition, the fun and the intellectual energy in the school is apparent as soon as you walk into it and that, combined with the warmth, the collegiality and the sense of a powerfully connected community, is compelling. I very much look forward to getting to know the pupils, parents and staff and to working with the Governors, to lead Alleyn’s happily and successfully into our new decade.”

Jane will join Alleyn’s at an exciting time for the School, yet a challenging time for the entire community. She becomes the first female Head of Alleyn’s, demonstrating the School’s commitment to embodying co-educational excellence at every level.

Iain Barbour, Chair of Governors said: “Jane’s wealth of leadership, teaching and pastoral experience make her uniquely placed to continue to foster the unique Alleyn’s ethos and values, reinforcing our commitment to providing a broad learning experience, enabling our children to challenge and fulfil their academic and individual potential, whilst preparing them for the world of opportunities beyond Alleyn’s.”

Mrs Lunnon attended North London Collegiate School and the University of Bristol (English). She began her career in marketing and research before taking up teaching. She has had a broad experience of both single-sex and co-educational environments and has been Head of Wimbledon High School since September 2014. She was previously Senior Deputy Head at Wellington College where she spent 12 years as an English teacher, Head of English and Assistant Director of Studies, before moving to Prior’s Field School, as Head of Sixth Form then Deputy Head. She re-joined Wellington in 2010 as Senior Deputy, playing a key role in its Senior Leadership Team, working to increase the profile of girls in the recently co-educational school.

Jane is a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company Education Committee, a trustee of the Royal Springboard Foundation, sits on the Board of Governors of Newland House and King Edward’s School, Witley, is secretary of the GSA London Region Heads division and sits on the HMC Universities Committee. She is married to Neil Lunnon who is Head of Fulham Prep School.

The School community looks forward to welcoming Jane in January 2021.

During the Advent Term 2020 Mr Andy Skinnard, Senior Deputy-Head of Alleyn’s, will become interim-Head. The Board have every confidence that Andy and the rest of the Senior Management Team will shepherd the entire community through whatever short-term challenges lie ahead.
