One of the few events I think most of us will be happy to miss this year is the annual wallet vacuuming at the local bistro. Dining out on Valentine’s night is about as special or romantic as receiving the quarterly gas bill. Long lines of couples’ tables, the special menu where the most extraordinary thing about it are the prices. This is of course complemented by dishes that often give mass production a bad name.
Do not fear though, there is a way you can make it a night to remember without resorting to ordering a disappointing takeaway or risking life and limb by experimenting with a recipe way out of your comfort zone. Local caterers, the Earlsfield Kitchen, the brains behind local favourite gastropub the Jolly Gardeners are providing easy to follow meal kits, helping you to create a fine dining experience in your own home.
Many of London’s leading restaurants have found that meal kits can offer a far better dining experience than swiftly cooling and traffic shaken deliveries. Eateries such as Gymkhana, the River Café and others have embraced this during lockdown. On a humbler level, one of the best meals I had last year was from a meal kit by Earlsfield pizza maestro’s Well Kneaded.
The Earlsfield Kitchen is offering 2 Valentine’s menus, standard at £45 per person and vegan at £40. Each is comprised of four courses and you will receive instructions on prep and plating. The standard menu leans towards seafood and includes a very tempting lobster ravioli as well as seabass and a smoked duck terrine. For vegans there is roasted pumpkin and a ginger and lime bisque lurching among the delights. To make the evening even more special you can add a bottle of champagne for the reasonable price of £30.
Meal kits need to be ordered in advance and can be picked up on the 12th-14th of February from The Earlsfield Kitchen, 228 Earlsfield Rd, London SW18 3DX, email orders@earlsfieldkitchen.com. So go on giving both your palette and your partner a treat, you might even try to convince them it’s all your own work. I’ll be back soon when I’ll talk you through my own experience with another high end food kit. https://nappyvalleynet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/EKV-flyer.pdf
Bon appetite
