Applying for a Bursary at Dulwich College

Last Updated on : 23rd August 2023

Recognised for its academic excellence and its diverse and welcoming community, Dulwich College is one of the UK’s top independent schools for boys aged 7 to 18.

Free and Subsidised places

Thanks to the generosity of our benefactors, we are able to give over £4.4 million every year to support more than 200 bursary awards, where pupils at Dulwich have free or subsidised places – the majority of which are for between 75% and 100% of fees.

Academic excellence

Boys offered a place at Dulwich College are in the top 15% of academic ability for their age group across the UK; your son’s current school should be able to advise you about whether your son falls within this range of high academic ability.

A caring community

We are a diverse and welcoming community in many different ways, including language, ethnicity, socio-economic background, religious beliefs, and LGBTQ+.  We ensure that every pupil feels part of College life and is pastorally supported, and we greatly value the relationship with parents and carers throughout a pupil’s time with us.

“I didn’t come from much, in terms of money and finances, but I was given an opportunity that I feel I’ve made the most of.” CJ Obi, award holder. After leaving the College, CJ studied urban planning, design and management at UCL and then founded the Urbanist Platform.

Eligibility

Family income, assets and other factors are considered when making a bursary award. As a broad guideline, families whose total annual income is £35,000 or less might receive a Bursary of 100% of school fees, and families whose total annual income is around £68,000 might receive financial support of 50% of school fees (these figures are indicative only).

How do we apply and when will we be assessed for a bursary?

Step 1
Complete the online registration form and tick the box to say you are applying for a bursary.
If your son is in receipt of pupil premium you will not need to pay a registration fee.

Step 2
Towards the end of the Michaelmas Term you will be sent a bursary form to complete and return with supporting documentation.
The bursary committee will then assess your application.

Step 3
Bursary awards are made at the same time as an offer of a place at Dulwich College.
