painter, decorator

I've used Dimitar Popov. To begin with he was good and then his work became so expensive and sloppy I had to look elesewhere - he did some electrical work which was completely wrong and had to be redone. I now have a very good qualified electrician Jeff 07904954293 and a general builder called Mike 07857177606.

I'd highly recommend Mick Blackley. He's local and works with lots of the local estate agents too!

He painted 4 rooms inside my house a few months back. Great job, really trustworthy. Mobile: 07946 101636. He lives in Battersea.

Hi,
According to posts and recommendations on NVN, Dimitar and Davor are good painters.Just think that Davor is more reliable as he got all good feedback while Dimitar has a few bad .I personally would recommend Davor as we used him and he did excellent job and If you look at his pictures on his Facebook page everything is clear.
Hope this was helpful.

BTW, a question to those who have used decorators extensively - is it standard for them to wash down the walls and sand all the walls several times (i.e. including between coats)?

I was speaking to a friend doing a renovation and she was singing praises to their new decorator who apparently took her through all the paint choices (degree of coverage/VOCs/effects) and also spent more time on wall prep, including sanding (dustless electric sander). She says that the finish achieved this time was hundreds of times better than what she had with her last renovation where none of this was done (basically the decorator then filled some holes and slapped paint on the wall).

So I am now wondering is this now standard practice (thorough dustless sanding) or is she lucky? Should I quiz potential decorators on that or assume it will just happen?

Hmm, that is not Dimitar Popov that I know.

On the contrary, just this last November when we used Dimitar again for a full repainting of a 3-bed house, he made sure he had all the floor surfaces covered, and he even vacuum cleaned all the carpets in the bedrooms!

I was very happy with the finish of the paint job, and for the price he quoted, I found this to be very reasonable considering the time and additional resources he put on the job. I know his brother is helping out these days as Dimitar gets quite a fair number of jobs following word-of-mouth recommendations. All in all, we were happy with Dimitar's services, hence why I keep recommending him on this site.

I would like to echo the above. The first time was a very small job and the charge was reasonable. So used the service again but the second time it turned out to be quite pricy with rather poor finish. Would not use again.

To provide some balance, I used based on recommendations on this site and thought the service was distinctly average - OK, but not great.

Was particularly annoyed at carelessness in keeping paint off wooden floors, bathroom suite and even furniture - even after my emphasising how important it was to us to have a clean job.

Don't expect too much!

I have recommended Dimitar's services in the past and I would have no hesitation to recommend him again.
We have used Dimitar in the past and he has proved himself very reliable, very professional, very polite and always sticking to the timeframe he has given. Overall, a great guy while delivering great value for money!

I can also highly recommend Dimitar. I haven't posted a lot either but thought it would be a nice thing to do as he did some good work on my skirting boards right before Xmas, and even came to finish on a Saturday morning as it took longer than he expected.
I think he gets most of his business from this website which is why I felt it would be nice to recommend him. He's just a genuine bloke who does a good job.

I've just joined nappyvalleynet, baby born only last week so this was my first post. Thought it worth recommending when I have had a good experience, but of course they are only recommendations and no one is required to add on it.

Good spot that's always dodgy ! And actually I've made a mistake.

The amazing guy I used was Davor - who has lots of recommendations on NV - not Dimitar, who may well be excellent but I can't vouch for him.

Apologies

Can't help but notice that 3 of these posters have only posted once - are these genuine recommendations?

Echo all of above.

Fantastic workmanship. Reliable, honest, fairly priced and totally trustworthy.

I would reiterate the recommendation of dimitar. He was able to come along the day after I contacting him to look at the work we would like done. We were able to book him shortly after that. Although he didn't axtually do the work himself, the guy that did was excellent. You would hardly know he was about and he was super tidy and his work was faultless. I will definitely continue to use dimitar in the future. His number is 07889 917608

I agree with this, we used Dimitar recently for a fiddly but small redecorating job and he did a great job, was really good value and I hope to use him again soon to do a much bigger job I was so impressed. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
