To me it looks like the site is being abused by SEO (search engine optimization) companies, as they invariably post links to external sites in order to boost their ranking with search engines.

One way to eliminate this problem would be to restrict the ability to post links -- for example, you could limit the ability to post links to verified users.

Hi Alchemy
Many thanks for your post. We are so on this as I find it frustrating and to be honest very upsetting - some of the posts have been offensive to say the least.

Over the holidays we have trialled several approaches:
- approving users before they can post - this slows down responses enormously and is less than ideal so I am loathed to make it a permanent feature

We have however:
- added hidden anti spam measures to the registration form, quick reply area and main posting area fields - these are helping
- banned the repeating territory offenders - this is also helping

About to:
- limit the number of posts per user until the first is verified - which is where we are now

If anyone has any ideas more I would love to hear them :-) please do post on this thread. We are open to all ideas.

Thanks again Alchemy,

Annabel x

There seems to be a lot of spam here recently — posts with dodgy links etc.

Any plans to tackle this, as it makes the site a lot less useful than it used to be.

Thanks.
