Europe is so expensive in the summer as I discovered last year when I was scouting around for a family holiday. However it turns out that the Canaries are quite a lot cheaper, mainly I suspect because their high season is earlier in the year due to the climate being warm in the winter/spring. We stayed at the Abama last August on half board (fantastic food and it’s all in waiter-serviced restaurants) with car hire and it was thousands cheaper than the equivalent hotel on the European mainland would have been.
