The astonishing thing about this decision - whichever side of the debate you are on - is the speed of implementation.

VAT on betting has a two year implementation period to allow those involved to prepare.

VAT on school fees (the only country in Europe to do this) is implemented immediately. 

Looks like the government asked for more time and this was refused.

[i]The High Court heard from both parents and the Independent Schools Council today, and Mr Justice Chamberlain, the judge, agreed this case should be fast-tracked.  This means that the Government has until 21 February to serve its detailed response to questions raised.  [b]It also means that our concerns have legal merit.[/b]
