As with other historic celebrations, such as the Queens Jubilee, Lambeth Council has set up an online form for residents to express their interest. The deadline for VE day celebration road closures is Saturday 30 March and 22 June for VJ day street parties.

The information has been posted at lambeth.gov.uk.

VE Day will be marked on Thursday, 8 May this year and Victory over Japan Day, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, will follow and be marked on Friday, 15 August.

Cllr Donatus Anyanwu, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, said: “These are moments in our history when we can reflect on the incredible tragedy of war, mark momentous moments in our history and celebration the freedom that was so hard won.

“To come together in as a community, to celebrate, to build new bonds and restate our commitment to peace I would encourage anyone interested in hosting a street party to apply via our online form.”

The government has posted a guide to hosting a street party. Visit www.gov.uk for more information.
