Beer is a beautiful place, not as packed as some and you have the seaside there plus Pecorama, a charming and traditional amusement park aimed at young children and with a famous miniature railway. Lyme Regis is similarly appealing and has some really high end eateries. Ditto Topsham. A perfect place to stop, has Darts just up the road, boat trips to the famous Turf Hotel, its own super play park and a great selection of places to eat/shop but make sure you have parking. For a pitstop en route I recommend Teals at North Cadbury on the A303, which is the nicest way to head West and pretty much as fast as the motorway (if not faster) these days. It has plenty of free parking, great food and recharging points.

Can’t suggest a stop over in Bath area I’m afraid, however we recently took our 18 month old to Rock for hols. Did journey in 1 hit. A3, M3, A303 Stopped off Wincanton services for refuel and leg stretch then continued to Darts farm just near Exeter for lunch. After lunch, sleep time for toddler in car all the way to Rock(approx 1hr 30/45
Darts farm excellent for families. Great food and play area just 5-10 mins off motorway. Used to live nearby so I know well.

I have just booked a last minute week in Cornwall - late August and we are thinking of breaking the journey on the way down by staying a couple of nights somewhere around Bath or North Devon...

Could anyone suggest anywhere nice that would suit 2 adults and 2 children aged 18 months and 4?

Open to anything - hotel or AIrBnB but not camping! Mostly looking for somewhere child-friendly.
