For years I’ve written it: The hills are alive with the sound of children having the time of their lives in the Swiss Alps. This year, I get to experience it, second hand via my teenage son.
Having partnered with Camp Suisse for many years, their team very generously offered our team the chance to experience Camp Suisse Ski & Snowboard, based in Les Crosets in Switzerland in the sprawling Les Portes du Soleil ski area. Not having skied as a family since February 2020 in Cervinia – which turned out to be near Europe’s ground zero for Covid – I jumped at the chance for our 16-year-old son. Given he was to travel and holiday ‘alone’ ie. not accompanied by any of his friends (though we're very hopeful he will make a few new ones) it took a bit of coaxing, but the five-hours of Swiss ski school every day and the fact that four other teens aged 16+ had already booked their spots, were enough to convince him that this was indeed a very good idea.

I thought I’d put fingers to keyboard at this stage as it might be helpful to share the run-in to the trip with other parents. So far, the communications and planning have been excellent. Each email received from Camp Suisse is succinct, containing easy-to-complete forms about your child, their travel arrangements, passport details, any dietary requirements and so on. There is a link to a private Camp Suisse Ski 2025 parent portal with all the details we might need including telephone numbers and a private Facebook page where we can check in to see pictures and updates. We’ll be added to a private WhatsApp group nearer the time, so I feel very reassured that we’ll be regularly updated on what they’ve been up to on and off the slopes. We’ve been provided with a packing checklist too, so we’ve dug what we’ve got out of the loft (much of it outgrown but dad’s stuff fits him now!) and made the most of the Decathlon sale (other brands are available…).

So the countdown to February half term has most definitely begun. And to top off the thrill of a week on the slopes, we, the parents, have the added thrill of dropping our son off at Clapham Junction one fine Saturday lunchtime where he’ll hop on the coach for pretty much door-to-door travel. So far, it’s looking like a fantastic all-round ski package to me.
More soon.
