I'm not sure that there is an etiquette for newborn twins - when mine were born we had some identical presents, some which were the same but, for example, a different colour, some things for them to share - at that stage it is just lovely to get presents, and I wouldn't have thought it odd for them not to have a present each. When they are older i think it is possibly more important for them to have an individual present each, so if you decide to go for something that they will keep/play with for many years to come then maybe get one each, but anything baby related they should be fine to share! Just one other consideration - I decided not to dress my identical boys identically for most of the time, but if they were given 2 lovely outfits that were the same I did now and again. Some people feel quite strongly about whether they want them dressed the same or not, so maybe don't get clothes if you're not sure. I'm sure they will love whatever you decide on!
