Re: Looking for a place to stop en route to Cornwall

I can be a bit of a National Trust fanatic but they are amazing for kids and this place was a brilliant stop:

Re: London elections: Could Conservative-run Wandsworth become a Labour council?

1. Labour have pledged to keep the council tax at the same rate and not increase the council tax. 2. Merton still has weekly black bin bag collection except in Lavender Fields where the new wheelie bin scheme is being piloted. From October Merton will have wheelie bin collections across the whole bo...

Re: what to do with kids during the holidays

My work colleague is in a similar situation. She is currently looking for a university age student/sixth-form leaver to look after her girls (13 & 12) for 2 weeks. Someone old enough to take on the more responsibility than a babysitter but young enough for the kids not to feel they're being babi...

Re: What to cook over the Christmas period, suggestions plea

We always cook a whole salmon on Christmas Eve, much easier than it sounds! Make sure the fish counter has removed the scales and innards beforehand, fill the inside with herbs (parsley, dill) and thin slices of lemon. Then wrap in foil but before you close the foil you pour over wine and dot the fi...

Nanny's car insurance

We're hoping a new nanny will be starting with us in January and that she will be able to use her own car to ferry the kids around. Does anyone know if she will need a special business car insurance for doing this, given that it's business purposes? Obviously we would expect to pay for her insurance...

Re: Science classes

They could still run at Henry Cavendish in the summer but the only Christmas holiday one in SW London seems to be at Holy Trinity. They're also at Ursuline Prep (SW19) in the summer which is where we've been.

Re: Science classes

Lancaster is your daughter in the state or the private system? I ask because I am equally frustrated by the science teaching in state schools. Private schools usually have proper laboratories and children have access to these from an early age so get to be far more hands on and I think enjoy it all ...

Re: Woman raped in SW London park - please take extra care

Yes, basically the woman was with the man before the incident, he was already known to her. The police are now trying to establish exactly what happened and whether or not consent was given. Hope that all makes sense. "A consensual issue" were the words used by the officers reporting at th...

Re: Woman raped in SW London park - please take extra care

Not that it makes it any better that a woman was allegedly raped, but I wanted to update on this. I attended a local residents meeting and the local police officers gave an update on this case. They said it was a known attacker and it was a consensual issue. There was also discussion about the park ...
