Re: City of London Freemen's Ashtead

I have friends whose daughter goes there, but they live in Stoneleigh. I get the impression most, if not all, of her friends/classmates are local to the school.

Re: Are airports as bad as the papers say?

We flew from Heathrow Terminal 5 last week on a 9am flight. Got there 3 hours early (as advised by the LHR website) to find no bag drop until 2 hours before (we’d already checked in online and printed boarding passes). In the end they let us check in bags 2.5 hours early and there was zero queue; li...

Re: Ukrainian 6 yo to start at Ravenstone

I forgot to add, re numbers of items: my son has 3 sweatshirts, trousers you can buy at Asda, M&S etc in packs so I would say 3 or 4 pairs would do. Polo shirts come in packs of 4 or 5 which is probably fine depending on how much washing you want to do! Kids wear a mix of trousers and shorts in ...

Re: Ukrainian 6 yo to start at Ravenstone

Hi there, I have a son at Ravenstone and the only parts of the uniform you have to buy from the supplier are the logo sweatshirt and PE top. Polo shirts and trousers/shorts can be bought from anywhere as long as they’re the right colours, and you can have any kind of swimsuit, school bag, and coat (...

Re: Can you recommend a Therapist or Councellor for late teen/young adult?

My 13-year-old has been seeing Eva Stylianou at The Awareness Centre on Abbeville Road for a few weeks now and I think she's fantastic. Highly recommend her.

Re: MIL allowed boyfriend we haven't met to take daughter to park

I’m a pretty relaxed parent and even I would be pretty horrified by this. Like everyone else, I think your MIL’s reaction is a reflection of the fact that underneath she knows it was completely the wrong thing to do. When you’re both calm again I’d be having a serious chat with her.

Re: daughter not invited to party

I can see how this might be a bit upsetting but I'm not sure you can - or should - 'do' anything about it really, especially if the girls aren't actually friends (which is very different to a friend not inviting her). I also think that if there are two of them not invited, that also makes a differen...

Re: Night time vibrations!

There is a thread somewhere on here - or maybe on Nextdoor, sorry I can't remember which! - about this, and apparently it's due to the new Nine Elms/Battersea Power Station Northern line extension. At least I assume you're suffering from the same thing - that post was people living in the Hyde Farm ...

Re: Steiner School Balham - looking for feedback

Hi there, I don’t have any experience of the Steiner school, I’m afraid, but just to reassure you that your daughter would be going into Reception, not Year 1 (you start school the September after you turn 4). In addition, if you have a summer-born baby, you can apply to defer their start by a year,...

Re: Female dogs on heat - please don't walk them on the Common!

I'm not a dog owner and know very little about dogs, so I can't comment on whether your argument is justified or not. However, this - "as they pick up their bleeding dog (sorry, couldn't resist!) and walk off, often with no apology" - made me feel quite ill. "Sorry, couldn't resist!&q...

Re: Petition to inprove road safety outside Chestnut Grove School...

I'm afraid road-narrowing measures on Boundaries is completely impractical. The section of Boundaries near the school is far too narrow for the amount of traffic that passes down it as it is, and during the day cars are parked nose to tail on both sides, leading to frequent queues of cars all beepin...

Mayfield Gymnastics - worth the money?!

My daughter has been DESPERATE to join a gymnastics club for over a year now. After 6 months getting nowhere with Tooting Gymnastics and their ridiculous whoever-replies-to-their-randomly-sent-email-first-gets-a-place system, we joined the waiting list for several other clubs and have finally, final...

Which shutter company to choose?!

Have had 3 quotes, from Shutterly Fabulous, All Blinds and Shutters (Croydon-based) and The Traditional Shutter Company in Streatham. All were similar price-wise, all seemed decent guys, online opinion seems generally good for all - so how do I choose? If anyone has had any particularly good/bad exp...

Re: Balham: living near the railway tracks: how noisy?

Yep, we've lived very close to the railway (runs diagonally to our house, five houses away) for over a decade and yes you do hear it of course, but we're so used to it now that it really doesn't matter. When we first came to view the house, as soon as I saw how close it was to the railway I thought ...
