Maybe suggest a postnatal doula? They are an extra pair of hands, support feeding (many are breastfeeding counsellors, lactation consultants or peer supporters as well), will cook for mum, keep on top of her house, help her with feeding throught the night if they are night doulas, be a listening ear...

Saying that they did have many other expert professionals to be accessed - I just hope they were easy to access when the mother needed, it must have been quite a logistical operation as well...

No, they certainly didn't provide medical maternity care but they did provide postnatal maternity care on a non-medical level ie similar to maternity nurses.

I think the concept was well intentioned and a much needed resource for many mothers.
