House sale - estate agent recommendations

Hi NVN-ers We're hoping to sell our house in whatever small window there is post-lockdown #1 and pre whatever is next. Any recent experiences of agents, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated. We're currently in discussions with Rampton and Dexters, both of whom are coming across well. Any red fl...

Re: Property management advice

A huge endorsement from us for Helena Jackson - another user has already shared the link to her site. We've been abroad for five years with her team managing our property and they have been brilliant. A reasonable and transparent pricing structure, a great callsheet of tradespeople, and sound advice...

Re: March against Brexit to Parliament Square - 23rd June 2018 - date for your diaries!

Jeez The Parsley Song, what's your problem? If you don't agree with someone's comments, respond with a reasoned argument or just let it go. Your response was rude and unnecessary. In case you didn't get the memo, there's an unspoken code here on NVN that we don't lower ourselves to ranting at fellow...

Estate agent fees - selling

Hi. Grateful to hear people's recent experiences of what you were quoted as the agent's fee for selling your house and what you were able to negotiate. I'm thinking that sole agency is the best way to go but would also appreciate advice on that. Finally, has anyone used Rampton Baseley recently as t...

Re: Why does John Burns school seem a bit 'unfashionable'?

John Burns is a brilliant school - we loved it but sadly left it behind when we moved abroad (I occasionally take a sneaky peak at what's happening locally in case we return, saw this post and had to comment.) The head knows everyone and is enthusiastic and committed. The teachers are great and the ...

Re: Urgently need a two week rental from sept 26th

Have you looked on AirBnB? That's how we found a short term place close to school/nursery.

Re: Managing my rental flat

A second vote for Helena Jackson. Annual retainer then hourly rate charged by 15 minute slots. She has a lot of tradesmen on her books, can get work done quickly or arrange several quotes depending on the problem. We're very pleased with her service.

Re: Buildings insurance (previous subsidence)

We're in the same situation and will follow this thread with interest. We're insured with Towergate and it's not cheap. My understanding is that they are one of the main underpinned building insurers. We did however speak with a broker who thought they could get us a better deal but needed more time...

Re: Speech therapist for Autistic child

Sorry to hear about your frustrations with your current SLT. My son is not autistic but we made great progress with Lisa Gadsby at Childrens Therapies. I've had a look at their website and see that Marianne Brown who owns the practice has a special interest in working with children on the autism spe...

Re: Renting our property - Letting agency recommendations?

Just to add about choosing a lettings agency - one of the best pieces of advice that we were given was to ask them what fees they charge the incoming tenants. Some of them charged ridiculously high 'admin' fees in addition to the costs for reference checking etc and this can either put off prospecti...

Re: Renting our property - Letting agency recommendations?

A further recommendation for Helena Jackson. We also found Helena through a recommendation on this site and are very pleased with the quality of her service and the fact that you only pay for her time rather than a flat percentage of your rent to an agency regardless of whether any time is spent man...

Re: Smashed Window Overnight Shaftesburys - Glazier

That's terrible! We have a house in the Shaftesbury but weren't aware of anything. What did the police say? I don't suppose any of the CCTV cameras captured anything? I'm so glad no one was hurt.

Re: Fertility - Private Clinic Advice

Another thumbs up for Zita West. We saw Zita herself and I agree with the previous post about how well she listened. I thought it was great that they could provide support down the conventional fertility treatment route and/or complementary therapies. I spent a lot of money on acupuncture (at a plac...
