Re: Can anyone recommend a sleep consultant for a 4 month old and 2 year old?

P.S. Apologies for the typos etc. I was working from a little iPhone 4s screen and for some reason the edit function is blocked!

Hope you get some sleep soon and can find a happy solution that is right for your family.

My name is Sophie and I'm a Family Consultant based in London but working all over the UK and further afield! Re: Any local doula recommendations?

Hi there, I'm a Family Consultant (new parents, sleep training, baby and child troubleshooting, behaviour, first aid and CPR training etc.) and I often meet or hear of doulas when working with families. One of the nicest I've talked to is Zara de Candoule at Doulabud. I've known several mums who hav...

Re: parenting expert required

Dear MO2, I think it's wonderful that you have recognised the beginning of something you suspect could become a serious issue in the future, and are tackling it head on before those buttons you mentioned your daughter likes to press, get set as the default auto-pilot! It's something I often see and ...

Re: Toddler hitting other kids

Hello, Firstly, can I say how brilliantly you seem to be approaching this. I'm a Family Consultant and help parents out with sleeping, weaning, behavioural stuff all the time. Often getting the odd comment or watching your little one kick or hit, or bite, pinch etc...can be worrying (especially if N...

Re: If you could offer me one piece of advice, what would it

I don't agree with the seperate rooms comment although I do agree with the no-co-sleeping advice. Evidence based medicine, best practice and many non-biased reports (pubmed is agood source) all conclude that sleeping in the same room as your newborn (unless someone else is there to do it e.g. Matern...

Re: New live-out nanny with an incredibly voracious appetite

Hi, As an ex-nanny and teacher of 15 yrs and now a medic running a family trouble shooting clinic (including conflict mediation!), I get asked about this a fair bit. There seem to me to be various issues at play here, and perhaps the appetite seems a problem but could there be something more fundame...

Re: 6 y old cannot sleep alone. Advice please??

Hi Emma Jane, Sounds rather like my childhood story! I have had insomnia since aged 2 and have tried everything. Ironic cos now I work partly in baby and toddler sleep training! Melatonin is not generally recommended in the UK for children, but may help here, to restore a sleep pattern, it's worth d...

Re: Nice toys looking for new families!

I'm based at George's, I'm pretty sure we would very much welcome toys, but as a previous poster said, ones that are easy to disinfect with wipes and that would stand up to a deep clean...I will find out for you. I'm also pretty sure that KidsCompany would welcome toys for their playareas, and if th...

Re: insomnia

I tried zopiclone but found the sleepy 11am hangover too much. I fell asleep at work! This was years ago though. I'm a chronic insomniac with bad and less bad phases. Tried most things. Melatonin helped short-term, as did anti-histamines, self-hypnosis occasionally helped although mindfulness hasnt ...

Re: Baby Sleep Consultant

Indeedy. I only nannied fifteen years myself (not counting the last few helping out). I tend to trust health official advice in the first instance anyway, usually they are medically trained and it's all well vetted NHS policy and evidence based. Noone is infallible though! There's room for everyone,...

Re: Baby Sleep Consultant

p.s. although the dummy habit can be hard to break after 6 months, if it hasn't been removed earlier, current best medical practice in the UK and USA, has found that there is a solid link between use of a pacifier (dummy) after the age of 4 weeks, until 6 moths of age, and the lowering of SIDS risk....
