Re: Parkgate vs. Newton Prep - how important is being local?

Thank you very much LittleMissSunshine and everyone else for the kind advice! We don't have a more local option (that we'd be happy to take) at the moment...Or rather, I think we are prioritising the school (loved the diversity and facilities) over the unpleasantness of the commute. Southsider - I w...

Re: Parkgate vs. Newton Prep - how important is being local?

Hello, We are also choosing schools for our son for sep2017 and we are almost decided on Newton prep. We are BTC and our only reservation is the commute, especially in the morning. I imagine all NP children come from further afield,as there isn't a lot of residential accommodation next to the school...

Re: Does Newton prep split the children into sets?

Thank you so much!

What is your feeling, does it work well?
Mainly, does it hurt the confidence of the children in the "lower" sets?

Does Newton prep split the children into sets?

Hello,

Does anyone know if Newton prep splits the children into sets according to ability? And if they do setting, from what age and in which subjects?

My child will start reception there next year, and just realised I've never asked the school about this..

Many thanks!

Re: Nurseries - Newton prep vs Marmalade Cat

Admission to nursery is by lottery, you are right. Admission to reception from nursery: it says in their admissions policy "A child admitted to the Nursery may expect to transfer to Reception the following September unless it becomes clear that such a course is not in the child’s best interests...

Re: Nurseries - Newton prep vs Marmalade Cat

Forgot to say that you should be able to organise last minute visits to both, if you think it would help.

Re: Nurseries - Newton prep vs Marmalade Cat

Both are great, but I'd say it depends on your plans for reception. If you want a private primary that is coed, then Newton. Prep is one of the best around. And like the previous poster says, from nursery you progress to reception without an assessment - which is a big plus and pressure off ( I thin...

Re: Husband won't help my sister with school fees

HelpPlease - I think your intentions are really nice, however I feel you are approaching this in a way that is not fair to your husband. Why don't you discuss with your husband what you are both happy to do to help your sister? It may be that he is happy for you to pay for next year's fees - which I...

Re: Broomwood rejection

Totally agree that assessing a 4 year old is pointless! But I wouldn't take the "rejection" personal at all - it's all a numbers game of how many siblings, 50-50 split between boys and girls, spreading the childrens' birthdays equally throughout the year.. If you are keen on the school, de...

Re: Hypocritical labour

I am a non-Brit, so this may be why I don't understand the controversy about Chakrabati... As parents, we all try to do the best for our children, we try to send them to schools which we judge most suitable for the child's personality, which would give them the best chance for the future, etc etc. W...

Re: Straight question: what is best nursery BTC or around?

There is also kindsunlimited on Chatham Road, just off Northcote Road.
But you have to register very early on, as they get booked up very quickly.

I think yes, most people have nannies..i think if you have 2+ kids, it works out cheaper

Re: PLEASE HELP: attacked by dogs on Wandsworth Common

" eat in a restaurant at a table"?!! - come on, surely you can't be serious that people cannot enjoy a picnic in the park!!!!!!!!!

Most people in London spend hours and hours indoors TOO, so we cant deny them the freedom of a picnic in the park.

Re: Am I being selfish? Caring for husbands father?

I'm so sorry to hear about your FIL and your situation. I think you are definitely not selfish, caring for someone is not an easy job and it will only get harder as his condition deteriorates (and you will get more and more frustrated, for someone you don't even like). In fact, I think you should ma...

Re: Newton prep or state?

We have 2 good friends with children at Newton prep and they all rave about the school (cant speak from my own experience as my children are not at school yet). In particular they mentioned the individual attention the children get from the teachers and how well the teachers keep the parents informe...
