Re: Clapham North Tube commute

It’s very bad. I join the tube earlier but it’s often that no one can get on the tube at Clapham North as it’s so full already which is what will be causing the queues outside the tube. But if I lived there I would walk to Stockwell in the morning which solves the problem for both lines. Lots of peo...

Re: Touch typing for my 14 year old - Balham

I think online practice is a really good idea as well. There are probably online courses to follow. For reference, professional admin roles requiring typing would normally ask for 50wpm as a minimum. 60-65wpm would be considered above average speed. 70-80wpm is fast. It’s not that common for people ...

Re: Any opticians recommended for bifocal or varifocal contact lenses?

Karen Lockyer on Northcote Road are absolutely the best. I was extremely shortsighted, had multifocal contact lenses for a while (successfully) and then they recognised cataracts early on due to the machines they use. I have been to many opticians over the years but wouldn’t go anywhere else. They’r...

Re: Cot to bed transition. How long to settle?

Our situation sounds a bit different in that it was a cot bed so smaller. We found our eldest fell out and so put a bedrail up even though it was a very low bed. I wonder if the bed feels really big if it’s a normal single? In which case a bedrail might help make it feel cosier and more secure. Hope...

Re: Disney Orlando

I would recommend staying in a villa with a pool instead of the Disney hotels for cost reasons (Disney hotels are astonishingly expensive) and the private pool. There’s also more freedom to do your own thing rather than pay to eat out all the time. And you have space when you’re not in a park. Large...

Re: Rutherford House or Ravenstone

We have two children at Rutherford House and are extremely happy. Both children look forward to going to school, they can accommodate a range of abilities and there is a huge range of extra curricular activities. All the teachers we’ve had have been excellent, there are LSAs in every class who are r...

Re: Nanny - Christmas Break

In my experience all holiday comes out of the holiday entitlement. So if the holiday entitlement is 20 days plus bank holidays all days over Xmas and NY that aren’t bank holidays would need to come out of the 20 days. That’s standard but you can do something non standard if you are happy with it. Pa...

Re: Husband's financial deceit means son now can't go to private school

This must be a very difficult time, to find out your husband has been hiding the truth of things from you. I’m sorry you’re going through this. Your post asks how to tell your son. I think if you have the time (he’s not already telling his friends where he’s going) then do as much research as you ca...

Re: Keep finding massive spiders in the bedroom!

It’s difficult to tell how big they are but if they’re as big as they look in the photos I wonder if they’re escaped pets from a neighbour. A friend of mine had that happen to her! I don’t know how you’ve stayed calm, I would have moved and got pest control in I think!

Re: Pros and cons of a first floor maisonette

We used to live in a maisonette on the first floor. Although access to the garden was down some stairs I would absolutely always go for the first floor as you then don’t have the noise of someone walking around above you and you don’t have the risk of leaks from upstairs coming through to your prope...

Re: SwimWay swimming school - WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

I understand fully how frustrating it is to miss paid for lessons of any kind because your child is ill but I don’t see how Swimway or any other company should be expected to make up the loss and lose out. Swimway are not able to have someone else attend an individual lesson to make up the cost and ...
