Wimbledon College opinions?

Does anyone have any experience of Wimbledon College please? After attending the open evening and reading the prospectus/newsletters, I think they have a good balance of discipline and nurture but I don’t know anyone there to confirm this. What is behaviour like during lessons? We’re not practicing ...

Re: Additional 20 miles per hour roads for Clapham, Balham and Tooting high roads

The Wandsworth roads with the ignored speed cameras I’m referring to are Priory Lane and Wimbledon Park Road, which were part of the 20mph trial.

Re: Additional 20 miles per hour roads for Clapham, Balham and Tooting high roads

It’s a fantastic idea in principle, however, most drivers ignore the 20mph signs and continue as normal. Unfortunately, the only way this will actually work is if speed cameras are set up that lead to fines . The speed cameras set up by Wandsworth Council last year are now redundant as the governmen...

Re: Any reviews about Ashcroft? Considering for Year 7

I used to teach at Ashcroft and I was under the impression that the ‘technology’ part of the school’s name was merely due to the fact that when they had their huge cash injection, when the school was first set up, they invested in lots of technology. For example, the science labs have a classroom se...

Re: 5pm teen mugging on Balham High Road

That’s because Graveney aren’t very good at enforcing the ban so students bring them in anyway. I’ve worked at both Graveney and Ashcroft and the difference is that Ashcroft will use a handheld metal detector if a student is suspected of having brought a phone in. They will then confiscate the phone...

Re: 5pm teen mugging on Balham High Road

Couldn’t agree with dimelda more. Ashcroft Academy have a successful ban on phones. Students aren’t even allowed them switched off! This fact is well known in the area and so their students are never mugged. If it’s a common occurrence in a particular school, might be worth that school considering a...

Re: Newly pregnant and moving houses. Best areas for families with a infant?

The best thing about Southfields is the sense of community. It’s like a village in London! Only a few nice pubs so not much in terms of nightlife, but do you really want drunken people making noise at night? Just hop on the tube, and you can easily access London’s nightlife. If you are a new parent,...

Does your son at Emanuel, Ibstock or Graveney play video games?

Does your son at Emanuel, Ibstock or Graveney play video games? Roughly what percentage of his class game and in which year? Would also be interested in hearing about ANY secondary level schools where video gaming has a very low uptake. Have any parents of teenage boys managed to keep them away from...

Re: Cavapoo Wanted

Kirstie’s mom, I read somewhere that some “proper” poodles are very sensitive and don’t do well with all the noise that children can produce. Perhaps the first poster has children? I’ve never owned a dog so maybe I’m wrong but isn’t this trait partly bred out when it’s crossed with something else? A...

Re: Pop Up Venue Wanted

In Southfields Village, there is a cafe that closed down on Replingham Road that would be perfect. It’s just round the corner from Nero’s so has great footfall. It’s 2 mins walk from Southfields tube and still has its “Sikelia” signage. You would be very welcome indeed!

Good luck!
