Re: Graveney School

I have two sons there. Oldest is in sixth form, very academic, into all things STEM and loves it. He has definitely found his groove. My younger son is a ‘square peg’ being beaten into a round hole and is utterly miserable. The SEN department is practically non existent and the school rules with an ...

Re: Parents not paying for end of year present?

It sounds like you’ve already tried messaging them privately several times, so they’re obviously not going to pay. In your shoes I’d probably put a message on the group chat saying you’re £100 out of pocket and ask if anyone can help covering the shortfall. It’s not a case of whether you can afford ...

Re: Sleep problems - 8 year old

I have exactly the same trouble as you. My son is now 12 and after 5 years of tearing our hair out over it, we’ve stopped waiting for him to fall asleep. We now just make sure he stays in his room and take all the devices away. He isn’t asleep when we go to bed at 10.30pm but by then he’s resigned t...

Re: Pre teen independence!

By the way, just FYI there seems regularly to be trouble at Southside. My older son does go occasionally with friends but I don’t let him just hang out there, they go for a movie or Wagamama and then bus straight back. Wimbledon town centre is a much more straightforward trip if you’re near an overl...

Re: Pre teen independence!

I have found it very much depends on the child, my first son I’ve only just started letting him now and he’s in year 9, but my younger son who’s in year 6, I think I could probably let him next year. He’s much more alert to his surroundings than his brother. My older one is also a phone zombie so it...

Re: How to prove vaccination status for a 12 year old?!

Yes not ideal but at least it’s something.
I have a feeling if they are quarantining at home for 7 days, it’s means everyone in the house also has to quarantine?? Not sure exactly.

Re: Graveney School - opinions sought from current parents of kids in middle stream

I have experienced both the top set and the middle set, and it’s vastly different. The middle set is pretty much the same as any bog standard comp, hardly any homework and low expectations (IME). The top set is like a private school. They give your child a target to work towards based on their year ...

Re: How to prove vaccination status for a 12 year old?!

I can only imagine/hope that it’s on the to-do list. Lots of people evidently will have this issue so surely it will be looked at? We’re booked to go to Oz in April and currently we cannot bring my son on the plane as he has only had one shot (no option for PCR with Qantas). So we are very much hopi...

Re: Can I tell my sister she is no longer welcome to come and visit?

Sorry you’re going through this, it sounds very stressful. My only perspective is that she sounds troubled. I’ve always believed your family aren’t supposed to ‘give up’ on you. I’ve had many times in my life where the unconditional love of my parents and siblings has gotten time through. I feel ver...

Re: Anyone else changing their usual Xmas plans since COVID?

Totally with you there OP. I was in my PJs all day getting slightly sozzled and my teenager actually prepared most of the meal. In the evening my husband and stood out the front with a few of the neighbours and had some mulled wine (individual servings!) not caring about the sun zero temps and then ...

Re: Foxes every night

Gosh yes it has become so bad. I have metal bins that have clip on lids so don’t have a litter problem. My issue is they poo absolutely everywhere, honestly I’m not being dramatic but it has really made the garden unusable at times! And not to mention the flattening of all my plants which I find ann...

Re: Mole check - recommendation needed

If you’re registered at a surgery, it’s worth calling in and asking them. My surgery has a dermatologist one day a week and I had a check there. Something was found and I was referred to St George’s where I was checked again, and non cancerous lesion removed.

Re: is it reasonable to ask teenagers to isolate so grandparents can visit?

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask, no. I think a better option would be to pay for testing 3 days before and self isolate while you wait for results. I expect it might be booked up everywhere for tests tho! We’ve been back and forth on Xmas options with my in-laws and have decided to give it a ...

Re: Low Traffic Neighbourhoods suspended

Well said Iris. My sentiments exactly. It forced me to re-think the way I use my car, and as a family we now use our bikes a lot more. I would never have tried to cycle with my 9 year old on the roads before. The current pollution levels locally are unsustainable, so in some respects I applaud WBC f...
