Re: Travelling to Spain with daughters friend who is under 16 - advice on what proof of travel consent.

There is Government guidance on the requirements re travelling with children who are not yours. I believe you need a letter, signed by all those who have parental responsibility for the child.

Re: Are water meters being added without home users permission?

I would be frustrated too if I came home to unexpected building work. My understanding is it’s not optional, and I can’t see how anyone can object to paying for what they actually use.

Re: Thomas' Parents please don't park on street corners

Totally agree no-one should be parking illegally. We’ve had this problem in our area. And clearly some people could walk who currently drive. But there are all sorts of reasons people drive, in my observation most often because they have another drop off before or after. If you’re considering contac...

Re: Chelsea and Westminster Maternity

also, definitely have a look at The Royal London, much closer to you and a relatively new unit (building-wise).

Re: Chelsea and Westminster Maternity

Hello, I had my first at St Thomas', and had worked there previously, not in maternity.  The service is very good.  It is busy and, for example, didn't want labouring mums to come in until contractions were quite close together.  From Canary Wharf, St Thomas' is a lot easier to access than C&W. ...

potential foreign job offer for husband, seeking advice

Hello, my husband is very likely to be made an offer of a move to his company's office in Montreal.  It appears to be a good career move for him, and decent senior jobs are in very short supply in London (if not non-existent) in the banking IT sector he is in.  He is very keen to take it if the offe...

Re: Road Safety note for parents and carers

I had a similar situation, probably 10 years ago, but I was the pushchair-pusher.  It still makes me cross to think about it.  In your situation, as you describe it, my opinion is you were both wrong.  You saw the pedestrian who was clearly intending to cross the road and you did not slow down and w...

Re: Anyone had both an elected c section and natural birth?

Hello Louisegd1, I am totally hearing you.  I think I may have seen one too many documentaries about childbirth at a young age and lived in fear of it for years.  I've now had two children, and will give you a few points from my own reality. With the first pregnancy, in the late stages, I wouldn't s...

Re: Paying for childcare cash in hand - what's the view?

To “daddy daycare rocks”, I think you have missed one difference between paying cleaners and paying nannies. By some HMRC quirk nannies cannot be self-employed, they have to be employed. So there isn’t an option to pay them and then deal with their earnings as a self-employed worker. HMRC allows dom...

Re: Wife refuses to stop spending so much - help

This post rang true for me. However it’s my husband, who earns a lot more, who likes to spend. I have been interested to read these replies and feel I need to tackle it through discussing long term financial aims. I can see it won’t be straightforward. In response to the original poster, your wife g...

Re: Third Pregnancy/Third C-Section - NHS vs private

Congratulations and best of luck! My experience of this area is that each hospital has its own rules/policy. When I had my first child at St Thomas' (nearly 10 years ago), it was NOT possible to book the private after-birth care. You could request to go into the private unit after birth, but could n...

Re: Nanny looking for Job Two to Four days a Week

Hello, we are likely to be looking for a new nanny. We're based in Epsom. Looking for roughly 3-8pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays. May go up to 3 days in the near future.
Let me know whether or not it's worth continuing the conversation offline.
Best wishes.

Re: Mother tells of nightmare moment she got out of Uber and driver took off with her baby still in the back

That is scary.
I have found I have to leave the car door open until I have fastened my belt as otherwise the driver is whizzing off. We need to remember the same when taking our children out as well!

Re: Seed Salon - St John Hill

The salon we use offers child prices any time mon-fri. You can take your child at the weekend but will pay adult price. For me it’s worth going after school or in the holidays to pay the very reduced price.
You’re right that you get to choose where to go.
