Re: Daughter left out of playdates despite us being very hospitable

I absolutely agree with everything Groovybaby has said. These issues tend to disappear at secondary school when the children rebel against friendships curated by insecure mums protective of their clique. You are actually quite lucky to be on the outside as life on the inside of an insecure mum frien...

Re: Clapham to have a new school - London Park School in September 2023

This is amazing news! First Thomas's senior school and now this. It certainly helps with the anxiety surrounding the 11+ process to have more options.

Re: Swimming clubs

Hello -  I have worked with families who had children at Leander and Wandsworth SC. It can be a very tough experience as there are often changes in coaches / coaching styles /  training times and those 2 clubs focus on the swimmers who are already very good, which can either motivate developing swim...

Re: How Can anyone vote Tory next week?

Thank you for this thread OP. I agree with many of the comments on here and just want to say I have come to the conclusion that there are other options - I voted Conservative until now. Not this time. I have spoken to canvassers on my doorstep and I have listened to radio interviews. The best the Co...

Re: How Tory Wandsworth could swing Labour ahead of elections

There are other options - I voted Conservative always until now. Not this time. Both parties have shown they have double-standards in their roles as representatives of the people. Both the Conservative party and the Labour party are treating this electorate with arrogance. Their petty debates are go...

Re: Thomas's Clapham or Alleyn's Junior ?

Happy to clear that up for you dimelda.  I am not making reference to a religious group. In this context, alpha children are simply those children who believe the world revolves around them. They are bossy, commanding and have little consideration for others, obviously through no fault of their own....

Re: Whitgift or Emanuel?

I agree, these are both amazing schools. You can't make the wrong choice  - it could simply come down to co-ed versus single-sex, location logistics etc.  Aside from the excellent co-curricular opportunities, I feel they both focus on creating a community where each child is valued and supported wit...

Re: Thomas's Clapham or Alleyn's Junior ?

That's a very good point dimelda. It's not difficult at all to get to Alleyn's from Clapham. I believe there is a shuttle bus solely for Junior school children, so worth investigating that.  Alleyn's Senior school isn't for everyone. The children are expected to be self-starters and find their own w...

Re: Hormone imbalance/ peri menopause specialist

Before you spend a lot of money going the private route, do remember that you are entitled to be referred by your GP.  I spent 3 years of very disheartening appointments with doctors at Thurleigh Road Practice before finally speaking to the right person, getting a referral, a prescription for HRT an...

Re: Thomas' Parents please don't park on street corners

You are correct in thinking that would be a solution, however I feel too harsh. Shaming on social media is a terrible punishment, even for those that blatantly ignore safety rules. It might not be a bad idea, however, to send photos of offending vehicles, with registration plates, to the safeguardin...

Re: Thomas' Parents please don't park on street corners

I agree, it shows a total lack of consideration, selfishness and is so dangerous. I believe the school have recently been flagging to the parents that this illegal parking is unacceptable, but the problem is that there are parents at Thomas's (and TBF it's the case at all schools) who do not think t...

Re: massive £20/13% increase in Spencer Cricket fees for 2022

I would definitely look into other cricket clubs. Spencer Cricket is notorious for signing up lots of children, taking the annual fee and then nurturing only a few.  A couple of years back, the 13-year old son of a family I worked with was placed in a team that didn't have a coach (after the annual ...

Re: Thurleigh Road Practice

I could not have had a more different experience with the Thurleigh Road Practice. I have not heard anything from them regarding COVID vaccines. Friends registered at other practices have not had this experience. Each time I have had an anxious wait and eventually booked through the NHS booking serv...

Re: Need advise from current Thomas's Clapham parents please!

Hello and welcome to SW London! Hopefully some current parents will come along to give you their views, but I have worked with children at both schools over the years and can give you a bit of insight.  Both schools are busy with access to drama, art, sport etc and for the right child they do an ama...
