Re: Back to school?

Unfortunately financial impact often leads directly to lives too and if we don’t restart society as best we can many more lives will be lost as a result of that than the virus itself. I think the important thing is parents and staff have the choice and everyone can make their own risk assessment.

Re: Back to school?

Completely agree Asmac. Unfortunately I think the Government and media have done such a good job of instilling fear into us to get us to take it seriously that they now need to reverse that somewhat to get people back into work and school. Yes it’s extremely serious but we now need to look at the st...

Re: when will it be ok to book a summer holiday?

Hi I have a holiday booked on 20th July to Europe and definitely not ready to give up on it yet! The issues will be: - will the FCO lift their travel advice as otherwise you’re not insured although if in the EU you’ll still get medical insurance - will the flights run - I think most airlines are hop...

Re: Paying cleaners during lockdown

Do think you need to bear in mind that some people simply can’t afford to pay their cleaners anymore. Our income has halved in a matter of weeks and actually I quite enjoyed doing our cleaning while listening to a podcast last night so might have to accept a cleaner is a luxury we can no long afford...

Re: School fees for next term

Yes but I suspect you might be underestimating the number of parents that have had income drops. Anyway, it would appear the schools agree anyway as they are now all passing on discounts as yes their costs have been reduced from normal....

Re: School fees for next term

Running mummy I think you might be missing the point that it’s not just the odd person but an enormous amount of people have gone from being comfortably able to afford school fees to seeing their income completely disappear overnight. No-one could have foreseen that and a huge majority at private ca...

Re: School fees for next term

‘Astounded’ you might be surprised that some people send their children to boarding school because they went themselves and absolutely loved it or because their children really really want to go. A lot of parents I know really don’t want to send their kids but after much pleading from their kids hav...

Re: School fees for next term

But there are definitely lots of teachers who can be furloughed - essential subjects no but there are plenty of subjects that just can’t be done online and plenty of roles that can be furloughed. Every business is in the same situation and no reason why schools shouldn’t furlough where they can and ...

Re: Babysitting lodger

It sounds like there are lots of solutions which is great but just so you know our au pairs eat with the children and then very much keep to themselves in the evenings so very similar to what you are describing. They do pick up the kids after school and cook their tea though!
