Re: Putney High Junior School Vs. Thomas's Clapham

Go with your gut feel! PH seems the better option from what you describe. The commute doesn’t sound that bad, you will make it work!! We had a similar choice between NP and Thomas’s Clapham a few years back, with Thomas’s being 5 mins away and we also had a younger one in a nursery nearby. We chose ...

Re: do private schools ask for number of tuition hours

The OP didn’t really ask whether tutoring was right or wrong, just if the rumour had any truth in it!

I really cannot understand why people have such set views on tutoring that they need to add them at every opportunity. It’s a matter for each family to consider really ...

Re: Should I speak to parent or school about bullying?

Definitely the school! I would speak to the form teacher, ask for her views on how to deal with it. In some cases, it may not be as obvious a thing as your child makes out, so the school needs to observe what is happening (I speak from experience, as it happened to one of my kids, it really wasn’t a...

Re: Bad experience with Simon Yeo from Ninjakids

Why couldn’t Simeon just ask the child to sit it out inside the class?? Honestly, I think that’s an error of judgement and no amount of explanations (asked a parent to keep an eye!??!) can justify this, as Simeon does have a duty of care. Best course of action would have been for Simeon to apologise...

Re: resenting my step daughter

Hi altelier, I think all the replies you got are right- basically, there is no state of the world in which trying to exclude the step daughter is acceptable. If I were you, I’d really forget about “putting your foot down” with your husband - she is his daughter, and he would be a bad father if he ju...

Re: Need advise from current Thomas's Clapham parents please!

What is your gut feel? Where do you see your child fitting in the best? I think listen to you instinct and go with that. We had a similar choice a few years back, and went for NP despite being less than 10 mins walk from Thomas’s Clapham. In hindsight, it was absolutely the right decision. My DS is ...

Looking for a cook a few hours per week

I’m looking for a cook for a couple of hours per week, to come to our house and make a few dishes for the family (with our ingredients).
No particular cuisine, fairly healthy as it’s for family meals.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Afterschool tutor/childcare

Hi all, I am looking for an afterschool tutor/childcare for our 2 children (Y1 and Y4) for Mondays/Tuesdays. Ideally, the person would spend 1-2 hrs in the evening with the children (4:30-6:30 or so) on Mondays and Tuesdays and do some homework and other fun but educational activities. Pick-up from ...

Re: Child friendly hotel recommendations for Oman

Agree zighy bay is awesome. More expensive than shangri la but you get your own villa and own small swimming pool.
It’s in the middle of nowhere and I thought we may get bored but it was bliss.

Re: Child friendly hotel recommendations for Oman

We are big fans of the Shangri-la in muscat. It’s not cheap but we find it very beautiful and comfortable with young children. And there are sometimes deals on flights+hotel. The very child friendly hotel (there are 3 hotels in the resort) is al-waha. Dinner tends to repetitive so we rent a car and ...

Re: Baby name clash - NCT group - keep or switch?

Keep the name. Fast forward 5 years and you probably won’t even be in touch with this family (children friendships tend to revolve around their school friends).

Re: Nanny and kids interaction in parks/playgrounds

I agree this doesn’t sound right. Firstly, at 6 and 8 I think they still need supervising, so there is a safety aspect. Secondly, children tend to be obsessed with phones/iPads anyways, so by being on the phone a lot she’s showing them bad habits. I don’t think she needs to entertain the children in...

Re: Have you used a colour consultant for your home and would you recommend them?

We too used farrow and ball in Northcote Road. They have someone who comes to the house for a visit in order to advise. Thought it was great!!
The paint colours in the whole house flow very nicely, so would definitely recommend.

Re: Primary Schools Clapham/Wandsworth

I agree that local state primary schools are pretty good. State vs private is a matter of parents preference, really. People tend to think that if they don't get into their preferred state school, they can just go private. But in this area, it's not as straightforward - because they private primary ...
