Looking for some advice for Thomas’s Putney Vale

Postby Jimdei » Fri Feb 23, 2024 10:31 pm

Hi, my DD has just got an offer for year 9 from Thomas’s Putney. We were told that they will be moving to their new Richmond site.
Would love to hear from current parents please.
Thank you very much indeed!
Best Wishes,

Hello! We are in exactly the same position! I’m finding it very hard to get any information and make a decision on whether to accept the offer. Fingers crossed we get some responses here.

Both my kids are there and are thriving. I have toured new site in Richmond which is really lovely and amazing. They have just announced the new headmaster today for the school as well. The staff go above and beyond to help the students - especially for GCSE prep and they know all the children individually. We have been very happy.

Thank you so much! We had a tour yesterday and my daughter loved it. It seems to have a family /homely atmosphere and the staff were so welcoming. Since DD is very sporty, I am a bit underwhelmed by the sports provision though. Where do pupils currently practice sports? Is there a list clubs available anywhere? Are the children set for maths or other subjects?

What is the general perception of the school and what do you feel Thomas’s offers over and above other senior schools?
Lots of questions…😀

My children are both very sporty. Sports facilities at PV are limited but they don’t ever travel far to access pitches, astros and courts. The new site will have full sports facilities 8 mins away. It can’t compete with some of the massive schools with their own estates but I think it offers enough.
Clubs are I’d say fairly interesting - but depends on take up. They have done furniture restoration, car building, pottery, horse riding, rowing, art, drama which includes a performance at the end.
They are set for all subjects I believe. Having looked at many other senior schools single sex and co-Ed I love the fact my daughter has really good male friends who hang out together as friends and my son has the same with the girls in his year. There’s a broad mix of children from different backgrounds which is nice I wouldn’t say there is a “type” everyone is different and that’s what we like. The staff are excellent and what make the school. They are attentive to parents which is nice too.

annabanana77, please be careful here as forums like this one are often monitored by school affiliates who could impersonate parents to promote their private schools. You may want to check the history of the parent's other posts to see if this is a real person.

And ask yourself a question why Thomas’s Putney Vale offers so many places to kids from other schools  instead of  from Thomas's junior schools.

I get the impression you are accusing me of being a paid representative of the school. I can assure you I am a real person with 2 real children attending the school. I like the school and thought I would reply to the questions asked. To answer your question I guess because the senior school is “new” many parents feel nervous about sending their children to a school with yet proven results. I could keep going on but unfortunately they don’t pay me by the word.

Thank you to everyone for their posts on this thread, if I may step in…

@Mastan1: thank you so much for your feedback, your replies will really help parents and guardians who are making important choices over the next few days.

@SuspMum2313, thank you for your concerns. Whilst we are not infallible we have been around for many many years and we’re pretty good at spotting fake posts. That’s not to say we always get it right, but I do like to think we’re right more often that we’re wrong - we do take down a LOT of iffy posts in a daily basis.

Again, thank you to everyone for your input, we value all your posts, and please feel free to email me at annabel@nappyvalleynet.com if you have any questions.

Enjoy the rest of your evenings!
