Ernest Bevin Academy tops league tables for boys’ progress

The latest performance measures published by the Department for Education put Ernest Bevin Academy in Tooting, at the top of the league table of schools in the borough for the progress that boys make from their starting point when they join in Year 7, to their final GCSE exams in Year 11.

These scores represent a significant leap vs last year, and continue a three year trajectory of year on year improvement. The league tables, based on data from summer 2024, also put Ernest Bevin Academy into the top four school in the borough for overall progress when compared to all other secondary academies.

The maths and English-specific progress scores of the Academy are also excellent.  Typically, English is a subject in which boys tend to do far less well than their female counterparts in mixed schools. The progress scores published by the DfE show how much progress pupils made between the end of key stage 2 and the end of key stage 4, compared to pupils across England who got similar results at the end of key stage 2. This is based on results in up to 8 qualifications, which include English and maths. A score above zero means pupils made more progress, on average, than pupils across England who got similar results at the end of key stage 2. With a score of 0.6, Ernest Bevin Academy is well above average.

Ernest Bevin Academy became part of the United Learning group of schools in 2023 and will be introducing a new uniform for new Year 7 students from September 2025 as part of a series of development measures being undertaken by Principal, Tracy Dohel: “These progress scores are a direct reflection of the hard work being undertaken by everyone at Ernest Bevin Academy. I am absolutely thrilled to be able to share them at last. I would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate not only my staff for everything they do for our students, but also to the students themselves for everything that have achieved.”
