Hello Everyone
I have an eight year old boy and he really wants an Ipod touch for Christmas.

Its expensive, however we're lucky in that we can afford it, however it seems just a bit over the top as a present for an eight year old.

I'm getting all the usual whining about how all his friends have them and so I wanted to know if I am being a bit of a scrooge.

Personally I think 8 is a bit young, if they want music you can get great MP3 players very reasonably and all my kids had them from 8, filled with audio books and music they liked for long journeys etc. We don't have any DS or similar hand held gaming devices. My eldest (13)now has an i pod touch and loves it, he is old enough to manage his itunes account and everything himself, and appreciates it. If he had had one at 8 it would have been just another toy and he wouldn't have realised it was an expensive luxury item that he was very priviledged to have.
