Our daughter is counting down to her 5th birthday in July, so I have been gleaning tips from friends with girls aged 5-8 years and then shopping online once children asleep!
Here are the favourites...not sure your budget but hope the ideas help:
1. Little Live pets - a butterfly that "comes live in the palm of your hand" a batteries make it flutter its wings. Can but with the butterfly house. RRP £23 but currently £14.97 on Amazon
2. Little Live pets bird (alone or in a cage) - feathered toy bird responds to your touch and sings, whistles or cheeps at you. My 7 year old goddaughter has 3 in different colours. Individual birds available around £10 or buy in a cage for £20.
3. A trip to "Build a Bear Workshop" where children can select their own soft toy bear / pony/ other creature (including Frozen theme) and then get involved bringing them to life, using the store machine to fill bear with soft stuffing, making a wish as they add a heart, dressing in (overpriced) outfits. They often sell giftcards at reduced rates. We have been to some great parties here - very happy children and bears have been treasured.
4. Craft gifts - making a headband set. Currently reduced from £20 to £10 on Amazon. At least the fun lasts with dressing up later and it is fun seeing your little one's style choices.
5. Craft - decorate your own jewellery box, adding sparkly bits
6. Frozen-themed gifts ranging from dressing up outfits to pyjamas and first "telling the time"clocks
7. A special outing eg theatre (the Rose Kingston and Watermans in Brentford are amazing), science museum (we love driving to the Discovery centre in Bracknell for loads of hands-on fun and massive outdoor playgrounds and bike areas) or Kew Gardens. With the choice to buy a special memento in the gift shop.
Have fun! It is such a special age. Another fun activity to enjoy would be creating a little photo album or video of the birthday/ friends/ adventure as they love looking back on it.
