Home alarm recommendations please - had enough of ADT!

Postby delsh » Tue May 10, 2016 8:38 pm

Does anyone have any recommendations for home alarm systems please? We've been with ADT for a couple of years and I've reached the end of my tether with them today after waiting in all day for them to refit a sensor only to be told they can't do it until tomorrow now. No apology or acknowledgement of the inconvenience and as always, they want to charge me £50 for the pleasure on top of my monthly charge.

It's the final straw in a long line of complaints I have with them - terrible customer service, expensive and unnecessary call out charges and a shoddy system.

Thinking of giving SDS (as they're local) or Banham a go. Does anyone have any feedback on them or is there anyone else you'd recommend or advise to stay clear of?

Brendan at BDG Security is brilliant. A local SW11 guy, very friendly and professional. Nothing is too much. He does all the alarms for James Pendleton and some of the schools in the area too. We have used him for 4 years and have never had a problem. He is always at the end of a phone line if you need him.
I would definitely recommend him. 0207 223 6010

Thanks v much seabel! I will ask them for a quote. I'm thinking that a local firm will probably offer much friendlier customer service than the big guys.

I'm also now pondering whether to do away with the old fashioned maintained system altogether and get a smart home device like Nest cam instead..

I would highly recommend Sheba Alarms. They are Streatham based but come to is in Clapham and previously when we used to live in Camberwell. We've had their alarms and service contract for over 15 years now. Their prices are very reasonable, Dennis and his colleague (whose name escapes me) are both lovely. They are very considerate and pop in without any fuss if anything needs replacing or resetting. Can't recommend them highly enough!

I use Barking Dog Security who have been great. It's run by a chap called Andrew and he pops round straight away if I ever have a problem. The alarm recognises our cat is a cat so we don't have to shut him away when we go out.

Hi, although they are a big firm, we have used Banham's on a number of projects, mainly because of two reasons: they do really understand about security (physical and alarm points) and their response centre is always available and really helpful. They are quite traditional (and expensive) but their service/expertise is very good.

There are a myriad of IP based security solutions (including IP cameras) which I'd be happy to talk to you about, however, I would start with a physical security review, i.e. look for the weakest and most vulnerable points of physical access and strengthen/secure those first, then look at the alarm systems.

Hope this helps, best regards, Mike Lander, Director, Ensoul
