Re dentist, see this thread:

Please consider chauvinism in your post. If we want this area to be a healthy functioning society some level of integration is necessary.

Best places for these questions are the dedicated fb groups "mamans a londres" and "maman au uk". Both really useful.
Bonne chance !

It's got just basic human reflex.
When my wife, who is a consultant doctor at a large London teaching hospital, next has an elderly patient say to her "I don't want to be treated by you, I want an English doctor", should she just shrug it off as basic human reflex?

What you wrote is simply an excuse for racism. In fact, I have more sympathy for the English behaving like this - after all, they were here first. However, I have none for the racism and chauvinism that French migrants in London exhibit.

Friends of mine use this for gp:
http://www.medicarefrancais.com
(And recommended Sophie batut who is a pediatrician)

Papinian - surely you know that the medical profession operates differently in different countries!! For example in France every baby gets seen by a paediatrician for regular check ups, whereas this doesn't happen in the U.K... if you are used to that, you will find it a shock that in the U.K. your baby gets seen by a health visitor instead (in this example)...

Flowermummy: The fact that the medical profession operates differently in different countries isn't relevant to the original post on this thread or to the issue of whether someone is seen by a French or non-French medic. That's just racism and it's sad that you're condoning it.

Maybe immigrants to the U.K. should stop leading parallel lives and start integrating.

It is very much the issue, because if you see a French gp you get similar "service" to what you are used to getting in France. Not about being racist at all, but getting the most comfortable experience when paying for a service.

It's not about leading parallel lives at all, but about getting the best service you can get (which is subjective of course).

The op asked a simple question and you are bullying her and calling her racist?! Come on!

Stop trying to spin this. French medicine, dentistry and physiotherapy are not so radically different from the U.K.

I am tempted to take your posts from this thread and the Jane Ellison thread and give them to The Daily Mail to use as an example of the hypocrisy of well-off upper middle class Bremainers. You are up in arms about Brexit but fine with people saying they want to be treated by a French medic in preference to an English medic. It's only that your other posts show you to be a nice genuine person that stops me!

I'm a Bremainer myself but I can see why so many people voted for Brexit and one of the reasons is the insularity and chauvinism of EU immigrants such as the French and the Germans who want to live their parallel lives only dealing with people from their own country and make no effort to integrate into the wider community. I speak both French (well) and German (not so well) and when I looked into having my primary school age children do classes I found that the sole focus of the French and German embassies (and the Goethe institute in the case of Germany) is on native language education for the children of the French and German immigrants in London and nothing at all on anyone else.

Papinian....calm down, dear.

There is no hypocrisy in being a Bremainer and not minding if a Fench person wants to see a French doctor- it is actually a pretty consistent position.

Threatening to send Flowermummys posts to the Daily Mail demonstrates that you are not a nice person (as if your posts on this and other threads were not proof enough.....smh).

As for finding language lessons for your children- Embassies are the diplomatic representative of a countries government. It isnt surprising that they focus on native language education for the children of their citizens. Surely there are other ways of finding language lessons for your children....you have advocated the use of Google in the past.....have you tried that?

BeeCee: 90% of your posts on nappyvalleynet are directed at me. 9 of your last 10 posts mention me by name. I'm flattered by the attention but it is starting to get a bit stalkerish/creepy.

Saying one is tempted to do something is not the same as threatening to do it. A threat involves a statement of an intention to something. Did you say that you are a lawyer?

In my previous post I wasn't referring only to embassies - I specifically referred to the Goethe Institute, which you may not be familiar with but it's the German equivalent of the British Council. Spain has the Institutio Cervantes and France has the Alliance Francaise, etc.

Elsewhere these agencies (and indeed embassies) focus on projecting the culture and language of the relevant country, just as the British Council does in so many countries all over the world. I can say this with certainty from my own experience growing up in a different European country. If you're not into culture then perhaps that's not something you have experienced yourself and you just think that embassies issue visas and channel inter-governmental communications.

However, in London these agencies' focus is very largely on serving nationals of their own countries living here. I think that's been a big flaw and is one of the contributors to the Brexit vote.

Believe me, I have used google a lot, but there just aren't decent language classes for primary school age children who are not being raised by a native speaker/bilingually. There are lots of the "one hour French songs and music" type classes but they do nothing for language learning and are just a way for middle class parents to feel like they are doing something for their children's education. Even those seem to hardly exist for German. This country is really really bad at foreign language learning for children.

thaoly10: You don't need to defend yourself to me. I can understand that you would rather deal with people in your home language, although your English seems to be very good. However, I ask you to bear in mind that we have just had a referendum result that was impacted by how English people perceive the behaviour and attitudes of EU migrants like you and me. We should all be making an effort to integrate where we can.

Papinian, I am sure that you are flattered by the attention. Isn't that why your posts are provocative and often off topic? You want the attention ;)

You are right, I am a lawyer (talk about stalker/creepy, that you know my profession) and as a lawyer I am trained to question what is being said and, where necessary, to challenge it. I am quite used to people like you- saying things, with conviction, believing that they will not be challenged because of the confidence with which they express themselves. If you believe that I challenge or comment too often on threads on which you have "contributed" it is probably because it is virtually impossible to read any thread on NVN without coming across your posts.....and, in my opinion, if someone expresses themselves with little or no regard for consequences, decency or truth, then they should be prepared to be challenged. Bottom line- I will challenge and tease you as often as I like (not least because you always, always become hysterical and it's quite funny  ).

As for the rest of your post...... ......but regarding this topic/thread:
Thaoly10 eloquently explained to you why she was looking for a French doctor and, because of your reaction to her post, did feel the need to defend herself. You should do more than justify your reaction to her post- be decent and apologise.

Thao, I've been living in London for 6 months now and I'm french as well.

Unfortunately, I experienced health issues and had to see some specialists. Like you, I wanted to see some french specialists and perfectly understand your feeling.

This is why I may recommend you 2-3 doctors I had to deal with. They were very nice and kind:
Dentist: Laura Sadone: https://www.findoc.co.uk/specialist/lon ... ura-sadone
Osteopath: I can recommend Charlotte Mernier: https://www.findoc.co.uk/specialist/lon ... te-mernier
GP: https://www.findoc.co.uk/specialist/lon ... ri-joubert

Hope it will be helpful for you. Good luck!

Thank you, Thaoly10 and I hope that you find a doctor that can help you and with whom you feel comfortable expressing yourself- it is one of the most important things when seeking treatment and (most of) the people on NVN understand that! Xx

HI Everyone,
I've pinged a few emails around today so I think most people involved are aware but I did want to post in case there was any confusion.

I've deleted a few posts today - there were some personal comments that I don't feel sit well in a friendly community website so I pulled them down.

Have lovely weekends, feel free to email me if you have any questions and a big thank you for taking part.
