Hairdresser suggestions needed for a hairdresser hater!

Postby LdS » Thu Sep 29, 2011 10:19 pm

Ive taken our 22mth old to Costas the Barbers on Garratt Lane a few times and even though they are patient and try their best to distract him, he's just not having it!

So rather than inflict my sons very strong lungs on the general public I was hoping someone could recommend a good mobile hairdresser who is good with toddlers...

Can anyone recommend a patient and nifty hairdresser before we have a serious bouffant situation!!!

Happy Faces, on Webbs Road? not been, but always thought it looked quite fun (for kids obviously!).

Hi there

I have exactly the same problem and have tried all the kids hairdressers in the area. And the best by far is Sallys on northcote road. She's absolutely wonderful and has the patience of a saint!

Hi

My Son was like this and would scream and carry on then I took him to Costas and Andys they were fab with him. I really don't think another hairdresser or barber is going to have more success or be any more patient, I think you need to make your son comfortable with it first. What Andy suggested was to bring him in a few times and just let him sit on the seats and play with the comb and watch tv etc (and get a lollypop!) till he felt comfortable with the place and the people. A couple of times doing this and he was fine to sit on his own! I would definitely try this as I don't think finding another hairdresser is the solution. Ask for Andy next time you're there

Hello - I used to look after a boy who would have a complete panic attact when having a haircut. His mum tried to take him, his dad tried to take him... Same meltdown with me... This was over at Sally's.
At that time Happy Faces were just opening. I took him there. A girl who unfortunately doesn't work there anymore gave our boy bit of a tour around. Then she put him in one of the car chairs, they put on his favourite DVD that he brought from home (they have lots of DVDs that kids can choose from...) We had only few tears and the following time less and less.
They suggested that it is a good idea to just pop in and if there is a free space in one of the chairs, the child can sit there for few minutes without having his/her hair cut - just to get used to it.
I would definitely recommend them.

Hi there :)
My mum is a mobile hairdresser, she has her own bussiness and has been cutting hair for over 20 years.
Her client list is made up of lots of children too, she is amazing with the children, very calm and persuasive and friendly.
Her name is Julie and her number is 07874336041.
Sam :)

Just wanted to say that we had Julie over this week and she has tamed my little toddlers hair!

It will take some time for him to get used to having his hair done, but it was so much less stressful having him have his hair cut at home 8-)

thanks all for your suggestions!

Just wanted to say, I second the reccomendation of Julie. She has been cutting my girls' hair for three years now and does a fantastic job. Plus she's one of the nicest ladies you'll ever meet. She revolutionised the whole hairdressing experience in my house and I wouldn't use anyone else. She's great.
