Loft conversion

Postby skylark » Mon Jul 03, 2023 9:47 pm

We are hoping to convert the loft of our Victorian terrace and would be very grateful for any architect recommendations (ideally someone who could also project manage and provide builder recommendations).

We had considered a specialist loft company but it seems a lot of people have had issues with the workmanship, communication etc.

Hi, we are an architects practice in Borough - www.dustarchitecture.com and we have worked extensively in and around South London and know the houses and planning departments well.

We would love the opportunity to set up a virtual meeting to discuss your project in more detail and we offer a totally speculative consultation for no obligation or cost.

In the first place if you can send an email to miranda@dustarchitecture.com
which includes the current plans we can use these to chat through during the meeting. It may be that we can give you some ideas and advice during our meeting and if you need new designs prepared we can discuss how we can help you with that.

We look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards Miranda

Hi Skylark,

I am doing that just now and have been wonderfully guided by David Bell at AtelierDB.  He's had a hard time as I've had an appeal going through with WBC but he's managed it well, kept his sense of humour, and steadily getting through the process with confidence and aplomb.

DM me if you want to chat.

Good Luck.

I used home tales for my side return and loft in 2019 and they were excellent. I used their recommended builder too and project management. Good luck :)

Best Builder Ive ever met - Vic Allen. CDC Builders. he is old school; works within budget and to timeframe. Ive used him a few times now. He has a great team, with pride in their work. Vic is the Project Manager but has worked in the trade all his life. His partner is an Architect and deals with all the paperwork and planning aspects of everything. I can pretty much guarantee they will beat any quote you get, they always have for me and Ive used them for years for various projects - full refurbishment 3 times in total, but he will do little jobs too, he likes the variety. Really approachable with amazing people skills too. Even my current Freeholder is using him this week! I told Vic I was going to post his details on here and he was really thrilled that I would do that for him; just a genuinely humble, honest man - theres not many of those about nowadays! Have a look at Aura Architects. They’re local (Clapham) and do project management as well as interior design if you need it. Really lovely team. I’ve heard so many bad stories about specialist loft companies. I think you’re much better off getting a separate architect and builder.

Hey!

We used a local firm called Hamilton Walters - Their communication was spot on and they also made some seriously good money saving suggestions which actually enhanced our build and saved us loads!

Email: info@hamiltonwalters
Phone: 0203 488 3269

Hope this helps!

Vic Allen did a bloody shoddy job of our rendering and facia boarding. His workmen damaged one of my windows, he had his ‘glass guy’ come out to fix the damage and caused even more. We are now taking him to small claims court to recoup the cost of replacement glass. In hindsight, I should never have paid in full. Do not use him.
