Ravenstone vs Rutherford House Primary schools

Postby DRP » Sat Dec 16, 2023 8:36 pm

Please talk me about these two schools. I can’t find any recent thread since the change of the headteacher at Ravenstone.

I visited both schools and we cannot decide between them .
Tell me what you like about these schools.
Thanks

League tables have just been published which might be useful info. Worth looking at percentage achieving ‘expected’ but also percentage achieving at ‘higher standard’. Ravenstone have also had a recent OFSTED.

You can Google 2023 Primary League tables and find the DfE site.

If you put in Wandsworth, it ranks the schools according to Year 6 outcomes - % achieving expected levels. If you then select ‘show table options’ and ‘select table column’ you can rank schools by % achieving a higher standard, ie children achieving above average.

These tables are of course only one aspect of a school and it’s important you visit to get a full picture. Schools are multi faceted and you need to get a feel for them.

I've been a parent of a child at Ravenstone for some years so we have experienced the two most recent headships. I couldn't praise the school highly enough - it's been really wonderful, a fantastic community, teachers with a relatively low turnover and good experience, passionate about the kids' learning. The values they teach are really part of the school ethos and it shows I think just in terms of how the children treat each other. There are many activities to get involved in especially the higher up the school you go. We've just been so happy there and thoroughly recommend it to others - although realise that there are many great schools in the area too!

Depends what you want from a school. Rutherford has better discipline and academics bt also a higher turnover of teachers. Go stand outside both at pickup time, even talk to parents there if ur brave enough. If Yr child isn't clever no school will make them so, even private.

What a terrible comment about children not being clever and no one making them, even private. Intelligence has different dimensions and not just academic. Emotional intelligence is becoming more and more important in any workplace and can be also taught. Different schools have different methods and ethos and kids might thrive in a school and not in another. I know kids who have started at Ruthford H, found it overly competitive, struggled academically and experienced bullying that was not dealt with, moved to Ravenstone, completely changed, got very strongly academically. Others who did not like Ravenstone and did not do particularly well there, moved to Rutherford and got top of the class. We are lucky to have a lot of choice and it is important to choose the school that fits a kid personality.
