Postby manta » Tue Sep 03, 2024 7:47 am

Hi, let's aim for a factual thread on this. VAT increases locally that I've heard, please share others that you know of. Thanks

Dulwich college - 10%
GDST incl Streatham & Clapham - 12%
Alleyns - 15.5%

Are these actually confirmed?

Our schools have said they are unable to confirm at this stage but one is hoping for 15%

The removal of business rates relief from April 2025 is an additional challenge

I can confirm the Streatham & Clapham one is correct as have a daughter there.

Interesting to see what other local independent schools are saying, especially as my son's school are yet to declare what their increase will be.

Dolphin school is passing the full 20% on to us. Sent out in an email with no warning. The original email explaining didn’t go out due to a “tech error”. We are devastated.

At Fulham Prep it’s 0% (not a typo!) for the 24/25 academic year and then 8.5% for 25/26.

I think all GDST schools are 12% like mentioned for Streatham & Clapham (so Putney High, Wimbledon High as well)

I can echo what others have said- GDST schools are increasing their fees 12% from January.

Can confirm Thomas's as above. My oldest weekly boards at Ardingly College in Sussex and they have said they will absorb half the VAT and pass on the remaining 10% to parents but in phases - so one increase of 5% this year and then another 5% next year plus inflation.

Unfortunately smaller schools cant afford to stay open unless they do this.

Anyone narked by this, read and share this story :

At The Roche School in Wandsworth, we have decided to absorb the extra cost, so the amount that parents pay for curricular teaching this academic year will remain the same for each term.

We care deeply about our community and the future of The Roche School and will endeavour to mitigate costs while continuing to provide our high standard of education.
