May I suggest a slightly different direction of thought?
Why is your Landry in the basement which is as far removed from the source of the bed linen as possible?
….Unless you all sleep in the basement? I’d understand as it is quiet and temperate!
Joking apart a washing machine dryer stack doesn’t take up a lot of space on a large(ish) house. With condensing driers there is no need for the old 4” duct to the outside world.
So if you fit a stack upstairs, I’m luck I can, then it will be a lot less bother to get power, cold water and 1 1/2” waste into position than to cut and carve a laundry chute through a house.
BTW if you do the chute properly it would need to be fire proofed where it goes through each fire compartment - likely ceiling - which gets very hard to do properly.
Maybe worth a thought? It saves carting all the clean linen back upstairs fighting with gravity!
