Re: Adventure Island Disappointment

Great news about the gate! Looking forward to a return visit now.

I didnt mean my post to be overly negative, but to provide what I felt was constructive feedback to a new business. I really hope Adventure Island takes off and is a huge success.

Can someone tell me where is this please?

I'm intrigued and wanted to try it out but after searching on the net for 'adventure island' and only finding something in essex, I eventually found the Bertie and Boo website which within it does mention a cafe but it's not well advertised at all (as far as I can tell)....

where is it please? and how much is it to get in?

thanks!

It's where PJ's wine bar used to be, at 205 Balham High Road, opposite Du Cane Court, pretty much in between Tooting Bec and Balham tube stations.

The cafe is of course free to enter, and £3.90 for the play zone.

I hope that helps!

I visited Bertie and Boos with my NCT friends - we all had a buggy, and after a quick look around, we ended up coming straight out again.

As a mother of a 9 month old the little baby pool bit is a great place for him to play about but is the size of a postage stamp! 3-4 kids and it's maxed out. Plus the Buggy Park is far too small for the size of the cafe, they have seating for 100 and parking for about 4 buggies. So we thought we'd just have a coffee, as you do, but those little desks are cramped in so close together if the Buggy Park is full you cant just wheel yourself to the back and have the buggy next to you as the rows of tables are impenetrable.

Maybe it's not designed for people with buggies but for people with kids of walking age but we were so looking forward to a big play space, they don't stay small for long let's face it, but I feel the functioning layout of the place is all wrong for the market they are pertaining to attract. How they can make somewhere so big seem so small is madness. We ended up down the road in Nightengale's (amazing cake, much cheaper)

Shame...

I think there are some fairly harsh posts here given that the place is new and trying very hard to meet a local demand. I visited yesterday with my 4yo and agree that if you have preschoolers you don't want to go in school holidays or after school as your children will likely be lost or squashed inside the play zone.

During term time there may be more opportunity for the owners to make a bigger space for buggies?

For the opportunity for a lovely coffee, cake and 45 minutes peace it's great, IF your child is the age when they can be shoved into the play area with no worries about direct parental supervision.

I do understand why people are worried about the door, but from reading the posts here I had an image of a secret door opening out unexpectedly and directly into the path of whizzing traffic. In fact it is a big glass door, hard for small children to pull open and the obvious solution is proper supervision. Everyone knows you can't trust a tiny child not to make a dash for it so it really is up to all parents and customers to be vigilant about the door in the way you would in any public place. An extra gate would of course help but that will make it even more difficult for buggies to manouevre around.

be careful with the childrens food boxes here.please check the dates on all the food before you let your children them eat it.
after a recent visit here with a friend, on our way home we were using the fruit to keep the children awake before we got home I discovered the fruit was out of date, I called up to complain and the manager explained how the boxes are made and put in the fridge for sale, but if what she said was true then they had been made up using out of date food..
I was given a full refund and told they would be checking more carefully in future
