Breast feeding and IQ: makes no difference...

Postby Annabel (admin) » Fri Jan 22, 2010 6:54 pm

This was in today's Standard. It says breastfeeding doesn't make your child any brighter...

Below is an article from the Standard of three years ago saying it does!

I am confused!

Funny article. Bit of a tonic too.
Wonder what the scary women on MumsNet will have to say about it.....

Bottom line is that it is probably completely impossible to prove one way or the other as to which is 'best'. Whichever makes mum happy will make baby happy too I believe.

I was breastfed and like to think I'm pretty intelligent :D
My husband was formula fed and is way cleverer than I am.
We battled trying to breastfeed our son, but it didn't work. I was completely miserable, and felt huge guilt when we abandoned it. Then the fog cleared and it certainly is a case of happy mum = happy baby.
And 'despite' being on formula, we think our little boy is super clever :P

My friends mum had four boys and breastfeed two of them. She said the only difference she ever noticed was that the two breastfeed children went bald in their 20's :-)
